100% of the time I venture into the easternmost end of Shadowmoon Valley on my Draenei Shaman Sharel on Moon Guard while Timewalking with Warlords of Draenor, the game automatically logs me out, and the only way to log into the character again is to use the Unstuck tool. There is a quest I cannot turn in to Velen because the game is crashing. This has happened to me many times now, and a review of the character unstuck logs for this character (if any exist) will evidence this claim.
Necroing this but I have now had three characters do this going from Garrison to the ship you come in on in the beginning to get supplies for the quest the garrison construction guy asks for and it happens in the same area every time and the unstuck feature didn’t work on the mage it happened on but eventually it worked I had to use it a bunch and now I can’t get the unstuck tool to even open when I hit select character it just sits there…
Having this same problem with a new character that I am trying to get the garrison up and running for. Try to log in she drops and disconnect.
I’m experiencing this too.
Attempting to transition between My Garrison and the Eventide Bay area results in an immediate loss of connection. This seems to occur in either direction, at least when travelling along the path to the north of the Garrison.
Any attempt to log into the character afterwards also results in an immediate connection loss.
Unsure if it’s a factor, but this is with a newly established Garrison.
Yeap further testing showed me that it’s the path there if you go down from the right jumping down to the shore and using the hearth to get back you can do the quests for now.
This is still happening 2/7/2024. Just had my character try go to the ships from the Garrison and gets immediately disconnected at login. Every other character works fine. Even the Stuck Character Service didn’t work.
I want to say that this is one of those Chromie Time crashes that happens in niche spots, just like the bug that makes Val’Sharah impossible to complete without switching off Chromie Time. It’s not a perfect solution, but for now, I have two potential workarounds that in either situation worked for me:
-
Turn off CT for just that quest and see if it lets you bypass
-
Go into network settings in-game and turn off network logging. Something about this tends to not play nice with CT, and was the fix for the VS bug I was having - maybe it will work here?
Good luck; that’s a frustrating thing to brute force.
I’ve had been in the same situation for over a week now. Same exact scenario. I left my Garrison towards the Ship and immediately got disconnected, and now disconnect within seconds upon log in. I have tried deleting folders / scan and repair / character unstuck/ and a few other suggestions from the forums. Nothing helped. I do have an open ticket on it, and hope they will be able to provide a resolution soon. I don’t want to have to delete my character and start all over again. They said it is a known issue…so that may mean there will never be an answer lol.
Still going on.
Still happening and is a 100% repeatable bug so its up to the devs now.
Happened to me today, 06/30/2024. I was finally able to break free after multiple times using the Unstuck tool on their website. When I took the path back south to turn in the quest, I almost locked myself in another disconnect loop. I used my garrison hearth to bypass it.
TLDR: (Moved to top, since it’s relevant)
If you encounter this crashing bug when zoning near a level 1 or 2 garrison in Shadowmoon, try disabling any addons that utilize 3D wardrobe functions such as Unit Frames or rare scanners, etc, or switching to a 2D Portrait where the option is available. (For example, RareScanner lets you switch off 3D models altogether, and most UnitFrame addons let you switch between 3D Portraits, 2D Portraits, or no Portrait). Switching to 2D Portraits completely alleviated this old (and still present in 2024) bug for me. It doesn’t tell us exactly where the bug is, but addon authors may be able to workaround the issue if its the function being called, rather than their code being responsible.
-Ok, back to the post-
I realise this is a necro, but after reading a few dozen threads on the issue with none offering a resolution (just work-arounds), I thought I should chime in after discovering a repeatable method of toggling this bug on and off (which doesn’t point at the cause, but reproducibility under specific circumstances may offer folks assistance in tracking down what’s ultimately responsible).
On a fresh install of WoW with no addons installed, it doesn’t appear to occur. I tested a couple hundred addons one by one and the only one that caused the crash was ShadowedUnitFrames. Furthermore, it would only occur when 3D Portraits was enabled in SUF. I believe when I previously encountered this bug, I was using Z-Perl (but also with 3D Portraits).
With 3D Portraits disabled in ShadowedUnitFrames, I’m able to path indefinitely around the area. However a specific test area* is to take a toon out of the Garrison and around to the right out of sight where it signifies the zone change to Starfall Outpost, just before the wolves. At this stage, exit and restart the game.
(*I use this specific test area because other locations in the area which crash often can’t be logged back into after the crash as they cause infinite disconnects and require Unstuck to remedy. The path I describe here can be logged into normally afterwards to undo the changes described.)
If the addon is on but 3D Portraits are off, I can walk back around towards the garrison which pops into view with zoning. I then return to my starting position out of view of the garrison in the zone change to Starfall Outpost. Enable 3D Portraits, and now exit (all the way out to Windows) and restart the game.
Take the same path back towards the garrison, and at the point where the Garrison should load into view, the game crashes, every time. At this stage (you’re now in the Garrison zone) you can restart and log in and disable 3D portraits (ie, switch to 2D Portraits)
As I said earlier - I can’t confirm if this is an SUF-specific bug, because I believe in the past when I had the same bug I was using Z-Perl, but as Z-Perl isn’t yet updated for 11.0 I can’t test. I’m not pointing to the cause specifically - obviously it’s something to do with Shadowmoon, but since the game doesn’t use 3D Portraits normally, it’s hard to discern if its a bug in the underlying wardrobe function the 3D Portraits are using which curiously only gets triggered in this location, or if it’s a bug with the addons themselves.
With a full suite of ~100 addons and SUF running with 2D Portraits, the crash never occurs for me, anywhere in the garrison area. With the only change being 3D Portraits instead of 2D in SUF, it will crash every fresh game boot, whenever I zone into a level 1 or 2 garrison.
