Shadowlands

Shadowlands Expansion is often mentioned as being one of the worst expansions. But there’s always tends to be something about it that somebody actually enjoyed. What was yours?

I liked the venthyr.

Class tier sets coming back in Sepulcher was very welcome.

I enjoyed the night fae, felt they were almost kinda cool.

Art and sound.

Bastion and Ardenweald in particular for me are incredibly beautiful paired with a great OST.

I do miss spending time there, I’ve found the environments much more enjoyable in that sense compared to DF and WW.

The M+ dungeons were some of the best the game has seen. Nathria was also one of the best raids of all time. Torghast was incredibly fun.

The issues (among others) were that the S1 affix was a great idea but flawed in practice, Nathria was followed up by Sanctum which was imo one of the worst raids of all time, and Torghast being mandatory made everyone hate it.

It had some great transmogs, and it was the ONLY expansion I enjoyed running M+ dungeons. I don’t know what it was but Shadowlands M+ just slapped. The rest of it though? Nah man.

That it ended.

Best I can say is some of the mogs were pretty good. Other than that I don’t have a single nice word for garbagelands.

I liked Chain Harvest. Really wish that was the ability Blizz put in the Shaman spec tree instead of Primordial Wave -.-

I liked Ardenweald and Maldraxxus. I loved Sire Denathrius, I think he is one of the most memorable characters introduced in WoW, outside the RTS games. I liked M+ and the dungeons - mostly, I don’t miss Plaguefall because of how much farming I had to do for the swords and trinket in there for my DH for 3 straight seasons. The soundtrack had some bangers, too.

Sanctum and Sepulcher were two of my all time favorite raids. The music and atmosphere in SoD went especially hard.

there was lots to like about Shadowlands.

People really hated the lore of SL. But the art, music, some of the raids (Castle was amazing), transmog, mounts… were really well done.

I enjoyed Ardenwealde and Revendreath. I feel like both zones had some really great storytelling and the characters were interesting. I also really enjoyed Torghast for the solo content and Zereth Mortis for the “Timeless Isle” feeling. I am not a fan of tedium, however I do not mind repetition.

Everything was good, aside from the lore, once they gave up on the needless restrictions.

I could be remembering incorrectly, but I think shadowlands was the xpac where ‘threads of fate’ (leveling alts by world quests) was introduced. I like options. I never ran out of things to do in Shadowlands, unlike WOD which was the only xpac I stopped playing due to skimpy content (I’ve been subbed since 2008).

My favorite part was the part where we were in the Shadowlands. Loved it.

Revendreath and the Venthyr should have been the main focus of the expansion. The Kyrian, Night Fae, and Necrolords were not up to par with the Venthyr’s design and story.

There were many things I liked, it was one of my favorite expansions.

  • I really liked the story. It was a Sylvanas story and the Dark Lady is one of my favorite characters in all of WoW.
  • The Maw was great. It was dark and creepy just like you would expect it to be.
  • Orbos was an easy Hub to use once you saw it as locations on a clock.
  • I liked the quests going through the Realm of Death and finding out all the problems they had.
  • Revendreth was my favorite zone because it was vampire like and I like vampire stories. I also liked their French swordsman style of fighting. I did that story with my main.
  • They said from day one that Shadowlands was an alt release so I leveled three alts through “Threads of Fate” and did the other three story lines, all of which I liked.
  • Korthia was OK, I liked Zerith Mortis.
  • I liked the dredgers. Some of my favorite characters in WoW. “If you die, can I have your teeth?” and “Don’t … draw attention … just walk … away”.

i thought this was a sarcastic post, but the rest of your points seem legit…

Oh boy, where do I begin. Shadowlands is my favorite xpac [yes, I know] and, while I understand the hate it gets and agree with a lot of the common sore points, I have to say:

The art direction was stellar, it has some of my favorite environments and sound design in the game.

The music was fantastic and is some of my favorite in the game. This ties in with art direction.

The individual zone stories and the new characters were GREAT. I adore the Maldraxxus and Korthia (the grind aside) characters and stories, and I had a lot of fun going through Revendreth and Ardenweald.

I just really loved the vibes.

The overarching narrative was… yeah… but I still enjoyed some points of it and the cinematic aspects of Sanctum of Domination made for an incredible raid experience. Castle Nathria was also a fantastic raid. The Mythics of the time were also fantastic and y’all have no idea how happy I am that they brought back Tazavesh for TWW mythics. One of my favorite dungeons.

Shadowlands gave us the Brokers. I love those idiots.

Threads of Fate was a fantastic alt leveling system.

Torghast is still one of my favorite things that Blizz added to this game and I really wish there was an evergreen version that continued to scale past leveling in the current game.

You can’t see it, but I am pointing vigorously at the Attendants. I love them.

All in all, I love Shadowlands. A lot. I get the hate, and, again, I agree with some of the common gripes, but I love it all the same.
