Shadowlands zones are far more superior than what we have now

It was suppose to be terrible. That was the idea.

The expansion advertised as underground has underground zones?!? Say it ain’t so!!

Hands down the worst zone ever made.

Shadowlands…November 2020…yup the timing is right where people start thinking shadowlands was good.

This must be sarcasm, there’s no way any zone in TWW is worse looking than the Maw or literally-rotten-meat–pus-filled land of Maldraxxus.

Sure, Bastion, Ardenweakd and Revendrrth look cool, but they fail to feel like afterlives, acting more as tiny unrelated theme islands. Not to mention that half of Ardenweald and Revendreth are bleak landscapes caused by the anima drought.

Meanwhile, TWW fulfills its premise, a descent into a vast underground world, perfectly.

And let’s not ignore having to take a taxi through Oribos and the Intermedium every time we need to travel between zones, while TWW zones are perfectly sew together.

Shadowlands is by far the worst expansion setting we ever got. There’s some nice visuals and good but underused ideas there, sure, but I never felt less immersed into the setting than back then.

Hard disagree there fren. The Maw is everything hell should be and more. The fact that you feel that way, means that Blizz was on point with that zone.

and Maldraxxus? how can you complain that rotten meat and pus-filled isnt cool? That was truly inspired design. It was like they took icecrown and turned it to 11.

Revendreth was about atoning for your sins. What is more of an embodiment of sin than vampires?

Not even at all.

SL sucked.

absolutely Not

Hard disagree. Bastion literally hurt my eyes to the point I would turn down my monitor’s brightness; Maldraxxus had an interesting story but everything was all goopy; Ardenweald was bland… just another “mystical forest” that could’ve been plopped down anywhere on Azeroth and it would be the same as Ashenvale or Ghostlands.

Revendreth was probably the only zone that was actually kind of interesting with the Nosferatu vampires, and the Maw was the only place that actually felt like it was an afterlife.

No, we cannot, the problem with SL zones was they were disconnected, forcing you to fly through the main city on a FP. That alone threw red paint on the artwork.

Only Hallowfall looks great because it has the vibe of Grizzly Hill zone and Avatar (movie) vibe.

I wish main city hub, Donogal, was station in Hallowfall.

Yes, Shadowlands is way superior in their art of all covenant, the cold maw, and even Torghast. The only thing I thought was alright but wasn’t all that, was Zereth Mortis, because they copied it off Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

ehhhhhh yes and no.

Aesthetically? yes. SL zones actually looked better, they looked like they had soul and style to them.
Lay out? No, lol god no, that was my biggest issue with SL zones were as zones, SL was layed out horribly and made no sense. At least with these zones it makes sense they feel like they are ordered which i like.

Hold up are you compairing THE MAW to TWW zones??? Flat gray, green and black for as far as the eye can see verus Hollowfell verdent green with cliffs rivers and valleys and a Giant glowing crystal that changes from Light to void every 30 mins…nice troll.

No, it’s not. I can think of whole expansion set in “Hell” with different landscapes: lava-filled hellscapes, sand-blasted deserts of glass, sprawling cities of the damned, forests of agonizing soul-trees, a sunless sea and the horrors of its depths. The Maw is just a wasteland full of monsters, the only remarkable landmarks being the river of souls and Torghast. It was the most basic bland idea of hell one could think. I’ve seen better hells in my nightmares.

The same happens in other Shadowlands zones. Each is a self-confined theme park with one or two features. You only see angelic cities in the background of Bastion. Ardenweald is either night forest or gorm wasteland. Revendreth has a 3rd environment besides the Venthyr cities and the gorges: the Light-blasted wasteland. Maldraxxus is… Maldraxxus.

And all those afterlives with billions of souls accumulated from countless worlds over eons feel as small as the Isle of Dorn.

If we are talking say individual zones I prefer say something like Bastion to Hallowfall because unlike most others I find Hallowfall to be the most boring zone of the current xpac but if we are talking all zones it would be I prefer current zones over Shadowlands because layout is better and easier to navigate and I like 3 out of 4 of them where with Shadowlands I only liked 2 out of 5.

Ringing Deeps is probably the least good zone. It’s not bad it’s just not as amazing as the other ones. I love Dorn too. Yea it’s less spectacular than Hallowfall but it’s wide and open and beautiful and just has a different feel.

I LOVE Ahj’kahet. That zone is great! Flying around it is so much fun. So many nooks and crannies to zip through, so much to explore. It holds true to the feeling of a huge subterranean cave but still is open enough for dragonflying to work perfectly. I love that to get there from the other zones we have to descend deep underground. Even that shaft down to the Ringing Deeps really makes you feel like you’re descending into the ground. IDK the zone this time just hit different than they have in the past.

Hallowfall is by far the best looking zone created.

God rays for the win!

They certainly did … it was the trashiest expac ever, there’s a reason the game hemorrhaged players after it launched.

it wasn’t the art work that made me skip shadowlands entirely

So Horibos was, well, horrible. Let’s get that out of the way. It wasn’t a city or a hub. It was an airport. And not a good one like Singapore. Like a crappy regional airport in South Dakota.

Some of the SL zones were pure torture, like the Maw. Some were torture until you got flying. Yes, I’m looking at you, Revendreth.

I also hated how they were all separated and you constantly had to fly between them, via Horibos of course. Unless you had the Wormhole toy, which was basically a must.

I’m also biased here because I hate underground zones. Zaraleck Caverns can bite me.

I never see anyone praise Ardenweald. They usualy talk about Revendreth. But the Maw? Dear God. Have you forgotten the 9.0 Maw and the Eye of the Jailer with no mounts? Or losing STygia when you die? But maybe you’re purely talking about aesthetics.

Revendreth’s navigation and layout was great! It allowed me to keep people sapped on the lift to the world boss for ages since it was the only way up there. So they had to ride the lift over and over. I had some poor shaman on it for about 20 minutes.

Getting around the Maw was perfectly fine. Get off your mount once in a while and take in the horror

Oribos was fine. I liked that i could just flightmaster everywhere and afk during travel.

The Shadowlands expansion brought new players and returning players. Also, many players also left when the lawsuit happened.

Everyone praised Dragonflight as a fresh of breath air but it only retained current players and it was so dead in every zone other than the hub from the beginning of that expansion until the end of it. That’s why in TWW, it’s more dead than ever.
