so do they use the staff or polearm every now and then or does it just sit there on the back the entire time and they just use their fists?
It works the way it is meant to work for a class that in it’s description literally says in four separate areas is based on weaponless combat.
And where does that description says monks are a pet class? Exactly, nowhere, yet they summon 12 mobs
Meant to work? I think not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvYXoyxLv64
I’m not against the class being bare knuckles fighting only, if they removed every type of weapon besides fist weapons for us to use.
I think, there is a dungeon boss in Pandaria that explains it better, i have to find the exact quote, but for monks, weapons are a means of self expression, whatever they can do with weapons they can do with their fists.
But yeah, currently, Two handers are just glued to the backs, together eith every weapon monks can use.
Edit: Found the quote, from Master Snowdrift.
“Skill with a weapon is but a physical manifestation of one’s martial strength. Let me show you what spiritual power is!”
Monk’s aren’t a mixed staff/martial arts fighter like what is portrayed in the MOP trailer, your staff or polearm is rarely used.
If you want a martial artist that rarely uses a staff/polearm, you’re in the right place. If you’re looking for a staff/polearm fighter with a monk vibe, you might want to consider a Pandaren arms warrior rocking a plate-lite transmog with a monk staff (i.e. replica shado pan helmet, lorewalker tabard, staff of the hidden master, no shoulders, chest piece with no sleeves, etc).
Another option is to transmog your staff/polearm to one of the brewmaster artiffact appearances, your tiger palm amd fista of fury will kinda use the fuzan during its strikes, it also perma changes your default stances, just like it does with brewmasters now.
I have done this and can confirm it leads to some interesting animations of having a sword going through your face. If you transmog one to a fist weapon and another to a sword or axe then you will ‘use’ the weapons but it does look odd at times
Back in MoP, the Jab ability would grab the weapon from your back for the attack before returning it, with an optional glyph to always use unarmed attacks.
Jab was later removed and Tiger Palm replaced it as a chi builder. I’m quite disappointed by this development, and now even Brewmaster is losing its weapon-based animation. It’s trash.
It doesn’t need to say it, its always had sef, it was just redesigned, same with invoke xuen. It doesn’t make it a pet class when it operate’s completely unique from any other class or “pet”
Hunters would be pretty busted if their animals could mimic the hunters abilities.
And Xuen has special interaction unique to itself and the monk.
These grand claims of it being a pet class simply because it has summons is far fetched and reaching.
You should be able to mog the Brewmaster artifact skins onto a two handed one, and it does the unique unsheathed animation like it did for brewmaster. Also seems like your character will always have it out even when kicking/fof (though your character model holds it weird during those). Is interesting since they cast spells/tiger palm with their left hand when it is out.
