I didn’t play SL which current, but I have gone back and quested through the zones. Revendreth and debatabley the Nightfaye zone were the only good ones. The rest were terrible though (especially the Maw) And I thought I was going to like Maldraxxus since I like all that Scourge stuff.

While I wasn’t playing the game during SL (BfA pissed me off enough with the bad systems and atrocious grinds)… this video seems to be the best summation of how the expansion worked out:

How? Shadowlands didn’t introduce warband or any quality of life and also shadowlands separated zones with flight points to access them it was annoying.
And also the story was not perfect.

I personally loved parts of SL but I can see why others hated it. I thought Torghast was awesome and completely craps on Delves in every conceivable way but most people wouldn’t agree. I also loved the dungeon pool but I know people griped about SD and NW a ton.
The biggest issue was tying so much player power behind covenants that were functionally impossible to change until a fair bit into the expansion. It completely killed the RP aesthetic for pretty much everyone unless you got lucky. For example having to go Night Fae as an undead rogue even though Revendreth or Maldraxxus covs were way cooler and fit your character better (before they changed things) because if you didn’t you were going to do half the amount of damage as someone that did.
It’s true it’s visually the best expansion still, best xmogs, best raids. Torghast was good too it was only annoying cause you had to force it every week. Dragonflight brought lizards nobody plays as we TWW is only relevant cause xalatath is pretty

Perhaps a controversial take but I didn’t care for bastion, really didn’t like Maldraxxus, thought ardenweald was ok in small doses, and did enjoy revendreth. On the other hand I generally enjoy all of the DF and TWW zones.
Weirdly enough I didn’t hate the maw, and I did appreciate the soulslike vibe it was going for.

torghast was good and when the power fantasy hit, it hit really well FOR SOME CLASSES. problem with SL was the mini grinds littered all over. between renown grinds, torghast grinds for leggo mats and the maw grind for sockets, these are where SL failed. The legendary system was neat in the sense of having multiple different powers to flex, but aqcuisition outside of “do X thing get X leggo guaranteed” were terrible. If i didnt have a gold rich buddy making all my leggos for me id have quit. Also that they were stubborn about covenant switching till later in the expac, it forced alot of people to quit from just making the wrong choice. should have never not been switchable.

Why? Because I only leveled 4 characters— and even that was too many for me, because I hated it so much. But I had to get through those stupid Covenants.
Borrowed power systems, weekly gated content and story, no good gearing system. So nope.
