Shadowlands Trailer Feedback

I just re-watched the trailers for the other expansions. From the Lich King onward, they get it right; amping us up for the story to come by propping up the significant characters and conflicts.

In my general opinion, what they got terribly wrong with this trailer is they attempted to amp us up by demeaning another significant character in the process. It’s never a good idea to take a critical character and turn them into what amounts to a side-character; even worse of an idea to do so in a trailer.

As for my more biased opinion, the Lich King is my absolute favorite expansion to date (been raiding every expansion since then). The fact that Blizzard relegated Bolvar/The Lich King to a side character level of difficulty/dialogue frustrates me to no end. Sylvanas didn’t even break a sweat?! There was nowhere near enough indication that Sylvanas had gotten strong enough to comprehensively overwhelm the Lich King like he’s a child; and even if she had, don’t try to get me pumped for an expansion by having one of my favorite characters trounced on.

I spent $15 to reactivate my account just to be able to express my frustration and confirm that it’s the last I’ll spend with Blizzard for the foreseeable future.

I for one loved the cinematic me and my brother watched it and fully expected Sylvanas to put on the crown. Both of us constantly saying no, just no. Stop already with the horde raid bosses. It seems like Bolvar thought the same because he said the crown would be her prison but we was all baited. That epic moment when she broke the iconic crown which is holding the scourge back we both was screaming WHAT? ……WHAT? we couldn’t believe it. A moment of surprise that couldn’t feel better. I now eagerly await the scourge invasion.

I’m definitely with you on this part. It was an interesting twist for the world-building part of the story, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their treatment of the characters in the story; for me at least.

Could you invite me to your guild pls?

If you rewatch the clip maybe you will feel less angry about it. She didn’t actually beat him. It doesn’t even seem like she even damaged him. That wasn’t her goal either it’s obvious. Every single arrow was strategically placed in order to chain him. All she did was used some crowd control on him which basicly looked like the shackle undead spell. I imagine a big part of the starting story will have Bolvar involved.

I too was screaming “WHAT?” but mine was more in the way of “and now how the F*** CAN SHE DO THAT?”.

I’d say I eagerly await an explanation but it was so dumb and out of left field that I’m left just not caring. I used to love WoW lore but it just feels like I’m wasting my passion on it now because at any moment they can retcon - and do retcon - basically anything and everything, even going so far as to go against their already ret conned lore.

Sylvanas had a bargain of some sort with Azshara which we have yet to really see what that was and what the outcome of N’zoth is. I wager that gave her a great deal of power plus she has a deal with death too yes? So all this death has been granting her more and more power. She didn’t rip that helmet apart with her bare hands. She ripped it apart with her magic. Even if it wasn’t flashy magic.

I respectfully disagree. While I don’t rate it right up there at the top I didn’t find it terrible either. I mean yeah she did kinda gank the big guy like a 120 on a lowbie but at the same time I think that is important.

Bolvar has been sitting on the throne as the jailor of the damned all this time but…he’s not Arthas. Sure we’ve all looked to him as being just as big and bad but in reality why would he be? Because of the helm? I’m not saying he’s powerless but he’s not on par with Arthas. Not to mention the whole Lich King story shows that the Lich King is not invincible (wow, no I did not mean that as a pun). Ner’zul was losing power/control when Arthas took the helm. Arthas was likely the strongest of the three and it took a good sized fight to bring him down but in the end, he did fall. Bolvar took the helm next and then just…sat there for several years. Yeah he sent the DK’s to do some of his dirty work but still what real power has he shown?

Now Sylvannas on the other hand has been out there fighting, making deals with weird death entities and the like. We’re now seeing that she’s being playing the long game, manipulating events leading her to get stronger in many ways from power as a leader to gaining new and darker magics. So yeah I think she had the advantage in that fight physically (she hasn’t been sitting her butt on a throne of ice for years) and magically (with the power up from the jailor obviously).

While Bolvar is said to have a foot in each realm, Sylvannas appear to have been into the darkest parts of the Shadowlands (the Maw) and returned which is supposedly unheard of. She has powers we likely don’t even know of yet from a place we really have no idea of but is evidently grown strong enough to starve the Covenants.

So yeah it makes sense to me. And while it may not have gotten me near as excited as when she screamed out ‘FOR THE HORDE’ in the trailor for BfA, seeing her rip apart the helm and tear a rift open into the Shadowlands said to me…Buckle up boys and girls…we’re going on one big bumpy ride!

Like just read your own post. “Sylvanas made a deal that… Probably gave her strength? Also something about Death so that’s like a thing too…?”

It’s just too thin, and using thin, ret conned lore to have her just trounce an established and well liked character is just… Insulting.

When i saw the trailer all i can think of is i can’t wait to get the Epic edition for it soon!

Just did, to make sure I didn’t miss something. CC or not, she trounced on him and dodged everything he threw at her. It’s not like she’s a Rogue with Evasion constantly up, lol

Bottom line, she should have paid a price in the battle with the Lich King (more than just some unknown “bargain” with an unknown antagonist that made her OP).

I’d say just the opposite. Arthas was a broken soul that was taken over by the power of the helm. Bolvar is a person of uncompromising will and determination who can willfully exert control over the power of the helm. Sure, Arthas had Frostmourn, but that was a weapon that was not of his own making and furthered his corruption. Bolvar more than likely forged his own rune weapon, like all other death knights must; one that would be attuned to him.

I’m also guessing you haven’t done the DK class hall quests. Bolvar hasn’t been entirely idle.
