Was actually pretty darn good. The thematics and architecture are A1…the lore could use some help, but other that that it was a pretty good expansion.
Haha, funny joke
Shadowlands didn’t even have Shadow the Hedgehog in it.
It was supposed to be his land!
Only good thing about Shadowlands was Castle Nathia.
I think you mean Slappyhands.
O_o … Diablo is leagues better than Shadowlands, they’re not even remotely close
Okay. There are two things. I’m glad they kept slappy hands.
I’d say even the worst Diablo is better than Shadowlands but then I remembered that Immortal exists.
Top 3 worst for me.
- Shadowlands
- WoD
- BfA
I liked Shadowlands. For reals.
The story was the weakest aspect of that expansion. Also wasn’t a fan of the linear path thing. I understand why they did it, I just didn’t like it.
The art and music were great, particularly the vampire blood elf lands.
I dont even know what “the diablo of WoW” is supposed to mean
This forum post is the Bubsy of Superman
Same.
Sometimes when I say I liked Shadowlands people say “you quit WoW in Shadowlands!” and I’m like I did but I didn’t quit because of Shadowlands, I did it because life happened, which is the opposite of Shadowlands.
I wasn’t a fan of Thorghost though. But I loved Maldraxxus. It was like a perfect mix of a Zombie Apocalypse, Wrestlemania and a wholesome petting zoo
Sure. I’ll begrudge the ONE good thing about it.
Putting it quite gently
Well there was the one problem where the actual gameplay sucked beans. Nothing like having to redo all of your progress and grind renown and anima from zero just because Blizz didn’t want you to be able to play with your powers. Then there was the conduit energy which frequently barred you from even playing multiple types of content on the same character without significant time in between. And Legendary grind (crafting and collecting). And loot scarcity. And The Eye of the Jailer in The Maw. Torghast was a fun concept that was made bad through the sheer amount of grinding for soul ash and soul cinders you had to do for it. Just heap after heap of unfun systems that served no purpose other than to frustrate, annoy, and pointlessly timegate players.
It was one of my favorite expansions. I’m a big Windrunner sisters fan so having Sylvanas at the center of the story was great.
None of which you actually needed unless you were in the small group of players who do the highest end game content.
The vampire realm was cool. First raid was cool too. Dungeons weren’t bad, but everything else was just… not great.
The story is what really turned me off from the expansion. The whole idea of several realms of the afterlife wasn’t a bad idea necessarily, but the realms themselves just don’t fit WoW’s established lore. There was already the light and dark, so Bastion and The Maw, along with Oribos fit. The Ardenweald kind of makes sense too, from a Druid sense, but they already had The Emerald Dream. They could have just expanded on that instead. Maldraxxus and Revendreth do not fit whatsoever. Don’t get me wrong, I love Revendreth, but my point stands.
In order to make all of this fit into the game, they had to retcon so much of the lore surrounding the afterlife. Nevermind how… “not good” the writing was. I don’t mean to sound mean… but that writing actually made me facepalm a few times. They should have pitched a few different ideas before going with what they did.
Edit: This isn’t bashing anyone who likes Shadowlands. Just my opinions. If you liked it, that’s cool. We all have our favorites.
Bastion with the dark mushroom…I’ll give you that one. The mushroom that turned the world dark and emo gothic really improved bastions look.
Maldraxxus and Revendreth had specific roles to play in the realm of death. Maldraxxus was their military arm and Revendreth was their “purgatory”, a second chance for souls that would otherwise head directly to the maw.
As for the lore, there was no significant retcon of anything established in the game. It expanded the background of the Dreadlords by showing where they came from and where they got Frostmourne and the Helm but not much really changed.
Lots of people didn’t like the expanded story but that’s not the same as a retcon.
Fixed it for you. Shadowlands is still the worst wow expac, and not even BFA, WoD, TWW or DF come even remotely close. To sum it up:
- Torghast sucked. The RGN that made it so if you didnt get enough hp or got a bad final boss, you lost time to walk out empty-handed. Nothing fun like reaching a boss that melees you for like half your health with auto-attacks. By the time it was fixed, it was too little too late.
- The Lore was incomprehensible: retcons to existing lore, contradicting both past lore and its own lore. To say nothing of the awful writing that gave a completely awful “send-off” to Ner’Zhul, Arthas, and many other major characters. The ones that were not disrespected rarely did anything of note, and Baine in particular didnt even do crap for most of the expansion period.
- The covenants and soul link sytem was hot garbage: you couldn’t play more than one facet of the game in some specs without doing about 30% worse because what was a BiS choice for raiding was either terrible or only mid for M+ or pvp. Having to level and gear new alts of the same class just to pvp because you couldn’t freely swap covenants for over a entire year of the damn expansion is unacceptable. To say nothing of the messy balance.
- The expansion content was s***. Ireedemable trash like that “The Spider in the Wall” world quest or world quests with hidden steps that made what looked like a 1-2 mins world quests into a 5-10 mins one for no reason other than make you hate world quests. When Korthia fixed it, it instead compensated by making the dailies suck: Between terrible droprate, non-functional vehicles, that horrendous “pick orbs like 5 times by clicking a item as you jump off and pray you don’t miss it” and more, it was downright miserable.
- The expansion had the galls to offer half of a expansion of content for full price: only 3 raids total (not counting Fated because its not new content). For context, Mist of Pandaria opened with 3 raids the size of Castle Nathria, a long 14 bosses raid in ToT and another raid with same amount of bosses in SoO. And that’s not even counting the content patches between raids delivered(5.1 and 5.3) that Shadowlands lacked.
- Working on cosmetics or mounts sucked. HARD. I’m talking about “each of your alts must be necrolord, spend over 10k anima, build a construct and farm a daily 2% droprate mount, and if you skip any steps, you will not be elegible to even try it” level of absurd, not to mention the asinine anima grind that wasn’t remedied till it was again, too little too late.
- Traveling between zones or even World Quests felt like it took too long, and if you wanted to do emmisaries, it was worse than BFA: In BFA, it was auto added to your log and you could just go to the zone right away to do them and turn them in (usually in that same zone with some exceptions). In SL, you had to go manually pick it up at your convenant sanctum, and 75% of the time fly to another zone (taking 5-10 mins to get there because there were no portals to each zone in oribos or your sanctum), take 15-20 mins to complete the emmisary, then fly back to your sanctum for turn in. Asinine and boring is a understatement. It felt like gratuitous time sinking.
- The raids sucked a**. Castle Nathria was passable, but both Sanctum of Domination(20 mins final boss? are you serious now?) and Sepulcher of the First Ones(overtuned as hell on release) were awful. The armor sets of the raids were likewise mostly trash with some exceptions.
- The Maw and Korthia. Easily strong contenders for the worst wow zones ever. Nuff said.
