Shadowlands Survival

Imagine, if you will, taking away one of the only three physical ranged specs in the entire game and turning it into the complete opposite of what the class is intended to be.

Imagine if one of the three ranged Mage specs was suddenly “melee”, or one of the three melee Warrior specs was now “ranged”… Imagine trying to make that spec compete with the other 18 melee specs that already do everything way better.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is what melee survival is and has been since Legion. Simply put, a bad idea that was approved out of lack of creativity and effort from the game designers who thought MM and SV were “too similar”.

On top of the fact that the vast majority of Hunters never asked for it, and were and still are to this day passionately against.

So please, Blizzard, bring Ranged Survival back, or even better, design a third Ranged spec for Hunters that utilize ranged weapons (bows/crossbows/guns or dual wield guns), dots, bombs, traps, nets, tactics, and less dependency on a pet.

For the melee survival hunters out there, if this was a democracy, the majority would win. Meaning, Ranged Survival.

I rest my case, your honor.

good thing its a video game

Or bad thing if you’re one of the thousands that like ranged survival just to have a handful of people take it away from you because…(insert bad reasons here).

must suck

good thing blizzard doesn’t care lol

It does suck.

It’s not a good thing. It simply means none of the specs are safe. If they took away the playstyle that thousands played just because they felt like it (and almost no one asked for the alternative) then yours isn’t safe either.

you mean like when they created the garbage that is maelstrom and stormbringer?
sure is dumb and bad.

you guys are weird, it’s very obvious blizzard doesn’t care about things like “well if this were about votes then ranged sv wins!” but all of you still come out here and try to justify reverting the spec by using that kind of reasoning

it’s very clearly not a democracy, it’s a game they make and they’re pretty clearly uninterested in listening until it causes them immense financial damage, and that’s probably not something the class will ever manage because nobody actually quits permanently when they do dumb things like this

it’s a waste of your time, effort, and caring, and the only way it’ll ever actually change back based on player feedback is if you all quit.
and that’s not happening lol

No one cares

Sounds awesome ngl… Battlemage was a long requested spec.

And dmg wise it competes very well.

Many lore characters and even entire communities would like to disagree cough thunderlord clan cough

Oh well. Childish behaviour will remain as such.

But it’s not.

Pet is an essential port of hunter identity. You say going melee goes against it, but your own suggestion goes against it even more…

Important, but not essential. Lonewolf exists.

If Bepples can’t get ranged SV back, nobody can.

People say Survival is “Bad” but it isn’t as bad as they say. Yeah sure it has obvious problems and the damage isn’t as good but the spec does fairly well overall. Do you guys think with the removal of essences and traits and corruptions will allow Survival to compete a bit more with other classes?

Survival does very well in arena, it’s unique and I think it’s in a good spot. I myself will always be a marks player, just my opinion.

I reckon it will stay exactly where it is. Middle of the pack. And it is perfecty fine.

I actually enjoy survival. Multiple talent choices, dps isn’t bad, some decent utility. Its different and its the underdog and i like that. More people need to give it a chance.

I think a lot of people quit because of this. I quit for three years and un-subbed 6 accounts in the process. Even after coming back, I’ve only reactivated 3 of them. When SL releases, I will probably go back to 2.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who quit. I’m equally certain many haven’t returned. There is plenty of ancillary evidence that’s the case, but we don’t have the data Blizzard does.

It was enough to get them to give us class-wide traps back. It was enough for them to admit that the prune didn’t work out the way they wanted. It was enough to get them to revert the “spec identity” push for a lot of classes (Hunter was not among them). Unfortunately, it was not enough to get them to revert RSV. I’m sure Ion was able to convince enough people that the exodus was unrelated to MSV. He is a lawyer and probably the best CYA person I’ve ever seen.

Yet I have seen posts asking for lone wolf for survivial. Hunter - a class defined by being ranged with pet, where neither ranged nor pet is required or essential?!? How about bringing WoW hunter back to being WoW hunter (ranged with pet), and put these new ideas into new classes, or at the very least new specs.

From the current WoW class page:
“Class Information
Hunters battle their foes at a distance, commanding their pets to attack while they nock their arrows and fire their guns.”

(Although I am curious to see what if any updates to the class info page will come with SL)

Wow. I’m actually shocked by the current Hunter description. Do they read their own descriptions?

I want to play that class.

This is just a troll post folks. Don’t get too much into it. The intent was to fire everyone up.

Always going to be folks that like and dislike a spec. Nobody quit just because of MSV. They quit because RSV leaving left two ranged specs that need complete reworks. It’s a shame really. The community is so divided and it wasn’t even caused by the player base.

I think some of us need to keep that in mind. I agree with OP’s frustration but he knew he was throwing the melee jab in there and some of you took the bait.

He’s not entirely wrong though, survival is definitely niche and simply doesn’t have numbers to compete with what RSV would likely have. So let’s just all get along

Bull. I quit for three years because of MSV. I never liked MM or BM, so it left me no place to go.

Yes. You’re right about that. I don’t think we can avoid stepping on each others’ toes though. Ion put us in a very awkward position.
