Shadowland's story is so terrible

When will you learn how to write a compelling story Blizzard?

When will you learn how humans interact with other humans?

When will you learn that motivations are more than a sentence long?

When will you learn that good characterization is more than a stereotype?

When will you learn that making the player character the lynch pin, again, for the thousandth time, that makes the plot even work makes the story total garbage?

Care to be more specific?

it is pretty awful across the board to be honest.

Why are we supposed to fear the Jailer when he can’t even keep prisoners in Torghast?

Why is Tyrande being ‘consumed’ by the Night Warrior even though it’s completely logical to want the undead banshee behind the genocide of your people and the Worgen?

Why do Anduin and Sylvannas talk like robots?

What kind of idiot builds the Shadowlands so that when the only filter gets knocked out (the Arbiter), all the souls head straight into the Maw–you know, the last place the ‘First Ones’ wanted them to go in the first place?

I could go on

Story is great.

Your opinion is subjective, like mine.

Both opinions matter.

The story is a fanfiction written by a ten year-old.

Your opinion.

I like their dialogue.

Probably because we’re going to find out that the Jailer used to be the original overseer of all souls or something, and the “betrayal” against him was establishing the system. Once the Arbiter broke, the souls resumed their “natural course”.

The Jailer is a very bad antagonist. He isn’t even “funny bad” like Team Rocket in PokĂ©mon.

He’s really just a big grey guy. I’ve seen scarier things horked up by my chihuahua. You have a fantasy game set in the afterlife where the big bad could be literally ANYTHING and they went with greyscale Mr. Clean.

I don’t think any story would have satisficed someone like you.

I like some of it. But I know it’s cool to take the piss outta them.

16 years and still expecting what
a modern day work of art that earns the nobel prize for literature?

It’s a fantasy silly game, with cartoony graphics and do silly, cliche writing. Your expectations are severely misplaced.

How about a story that’s actually decent? Where a character’s motivations are a driving force in the plot instead of some external threat or some contrived McGuffin like Azerite?

But no, I guess you’re in Corvikt’s camp, where if you recognize a character, it must be a good story.

I expected a story. An actual story. Not this stupid ‘Death has come for your world’ bull :poop: that can’t even keep people in the Maw.

Exactly

What you think is decent would be awful for many others. Stop trying to push your views as fact.

It would only be awful for the creatively illiterate.

It is an actual story, death does come for the soul of our world, for a very good reason
it’s clear you won’t enjoy anything anyone would do or you’d give an example of what you’d enjoy. You’re just as vague as the story you complain about.

His design is so bad. How did the same team that gave us Illidan and The Lich King decide that this was a fitting final boss?

My vain hope is that this is kind of the “proto Jailer” and next patch when he actually prepares for war he’s going to don some amazing armor
and then actually go do something and stop just talking about his master plan.

The Jailer’s design needs to be cleaned up and then he actually needs to start doing things and being an actual character and not just a talking head we’re eventually going to smash for loot.

People compare him to Thanos and it is laughable. Totally laughable. Thanos was on screen for like 2.5 hours or whatever and he had way more character depth and an actual arc. Plus Thanos actually kind of looks intimidating.

Pretty uninteresting and verging on invisible at this point. He’s like Azshara or the burning Legion. No threat, underestimates it’s foes, gets clobbered lol

“Anyone who doesn’t agree with me on the story is illiterate” Yikes.

I’d enjoy a character’s motivation driving a plot rather than some ambiguous big bad threatening Azeroth for the millionth time, only to fall at the first hurdle completely and become a laughing stock.

How can you find the Jailer or Syvlannas any bit intimidating? The Jailer has absolutely zero build up and Syvlannas has been ping-ponging between jaded anti-hero and moustache-twirling villain that she’s a total lost cause.
