Be prepared for a long content drought guys. Based on the shop release we’re looking at an extra 3-4 months compared to the last 2 expansion releases.
" World of Warcraft®: Shadowlands expansion available on or before December 31, 2020"

Not surprised to be honest!
But I hope they actually take beta feedback into account and actually take their time this time around.
Fine by me really. BfA needed several more months to be ready. I’m not concerned about release date, just whether it’s good or not.
I’ll bet money it’ll be released in August and December is just a placeholder.
The end of year deadline is just a temporary safety net. It’s not at all indicating when it’ll come out. Chances are certain it’ll be out long before that date.
They did the same thing with wc3 reforged. It’s just a placeholder that is the latest it’ll go out
I hope that’s the case. I’m just not too optimistic lately with earlier releases. A good example is Warcraft Reforged. They still haven’t announced a concrete date for sure. Beta is just kicking off and I doubt it’ll be wrapped up before the end of this year like the placeholder says.
I could be wrong as for why its on the US side.
But im pretty sure under EU law it is illegal to sell a preorder without a release date.
So saying December is a safety net to give more time if needed.
I’m expecting August again
August is typical
A legal requirement for opening preorder sales. You realize this, yes?
No need for a drama thread.
December 31 is a placeholder date.
They legally can’t start selling pre-orders without a date. And I BELIEVE in the EU if they push back a pre-order date, they cannot deny a refund, even if, as Blizzard constantly says “You’ve used the content, we can’t refund.” It’s against EU law. So they play it safe and put it at the furthest date in 2020. December 31st.
Blizzard to my knowledge, has never announced an expansion before the last patch of a current expansion has released. Which is why they can’t give a general timeframe. They don’t have a date for 8.3 yet. Why would they say “Summer 2020.” if they don’t know if 8.3 will be out in January or February? They can’t start beta until 8.3 is out. And they need at least 4 months for beta.
That is a legality, not the actual date. Also, they launched BFA too soon, so I would rather wait and have a completed xpac than what we got with BFA.
they say it for every release they have no release date for.
Even for Sombra skin, while it was released last week for public
Most games that don’t have a confirmed release date have those end of the year dates as placeholders, I wouldn’t put too much stock into that being the real date. It’ll probably be late summer/early fall of 2020
They can take as long as they like. I dont want a repeat of BFA’s launch. Easier to take a break than to complain about a content drought.
