Got bored. Went back and 2-manned Castle Nathria for some missing transmogs.
About half the bosses dropped ZERO EPIC pieces. The other half dropped a single item (non-usable of course). We had to roll on these few pieces using the standard Dragonflight raid-rolling system. Every boss was dropping Anima and Flux.
Going back and doing any other past-expansions raids, we’re used to getting the random 2-4 pieces that drop. Is there something here I’m missing? Is this working as intended?

Huh? Those bosses should still be personal loot (since Legacy Loot stops in BfA), which means that you only have a chance to get something anyway. Unless the change to need/greed in raids had some unintended effect there.
Its because shadowlands is still recent, so its on personal loot. BFA was the same way for the longest time till late-shadowlands.

I thought that they still scaled with the amount of people in the group.
20% chance per player for a piece of loot and all that.
Working as intended. You won’t get legion style drops (4-5 items) from bosses for awhile.
SL’s isn’t on the legacy loot system yet is why, you have to wait for it to become legacy before bosses will start dropping all loot. So if you any difficulty with a small group, mythic especially, then you won’t get much loot out of it.
hmm. I was always under the impression that Mythic dropped a set amount of loot regardless of how many people are in there, because it’s always a set raid size. But it’s been so long since I did old raids without Legacy Loot, that I could easily be wrong.
Yeah loot scales based on number of people for mythic, similar to how the mythic mounts work, to where if there are 20/20 people in then you are guaranteed to get all loot and mounts per boss kill. Any less means that you have a chance for the loot or mount roll to roll for the missing person and means you won’t get the loot or mount for that roll. Same applies to normal and heroic now to where smaller groups gain less loot, while bigger ones gain more loot per boss kill.
I see. I knew about the mounts, because we farmed up all the Jaina elementals for our guild at the end of BfA. But I didn’t think it applied to regular drops.
Yup, blizzard has been doing their best to stifle the WF racers since BFA with loot drops and so forth, yet it comes at the cost of the more casual players, or the ones that don’t clear the raid within a month.
I had seen a thread in the Beta/PTR that they had switched Shadowlands to legacy loot (This particular thread was for dungeons though, not raids). So I guess they reverted that?
Also the loot seems to be in-between Personal Loot and Need/Greed. I understand the limited drops bit.
Personal loot is supposed to give you usable items. (Right?) We went in as Leather and Plate wearers. I guess we were also just unlucky, but when loot did drop we mostly got cloth and mail. We also got an unusable class weapon token ha ha.
Anyways, doesn’t seem right. Definitely not a great use of time if this actually is how it’s supposed to be. Mostly trying to raise light to the issue if this is incorrect. Not a huge deal to me if it is working-as-intended.
i thought personal loot meant you get granted a piece that is for you,
OP said that they got something they cant use
