Maybe this is a dumb question, but how are players going to go from chromie time Quest reward gear straight into Shadowlands after the pre patch Scourge invasion event ends and there is no more easy catch up gear to bridge the gap between item level 50ish quest rewards and near item level 100ish Shadowlands?
Just like we did in WoD and Legion. If you’re freshly dinged it will take you a handful of introductory quests but then you’ll have a set of questing greens that will see you through.
The people that devoted time and energy to gearing way up in BfA might not trade out their gear for the first few levels, but it will eventually happen.
Nothing to worry about. I have a few toons creeping up on level 50 now, and they’ll do just fine.
Exactly this!
Ya well said by Som.
Nothing new or anything to be worried about.
You could go in with no gear at all and just put on what you get and be fully geared by the time you finished Bastion.
According to people who are leveling currently in the Shadowlands PTR they are saying that Quests do not give gear as rewards as often as previous new expansions Quests did and that mobs tend to roam in packs more often and attack in groups. Mobs also typically hit harder than in previous starting areas. By all accounts from what I am hearing it is sounding like the Shadowlands starting zones are going to be more akin to the difficulty of going to Hellfire Peninsula for the first time when burning Crusade launched or the difficulty of tackling Mists of Pandaria content solo without going in decently geared from raiding.
sounds awesome. questing sounds like itll be a challenge again. the way it should be.

I haven’t tried the leveling out on beta in a long time. Last time I did, it was so bugged I couldn’t even get out of the maw lol.
I leveled a brand new character for a while on the beta with inherited ilvl 75 gear I think. I had no problem questing and upgrading it. I did come unstuck in a dungeon that had unavoidable ticking damage but questing and upgrading was no problem at all.
Yes, but starting out with item level 75 gear is a lot different then starting out with item level 50 gear from chromie time questing. Especially if a new player decided to use an expansion like cataclysm where gear didn’t have secondary stats only primary.
Rather like Exile’s Reach for a completely new character, although probably with more effort. (E-reach gets a new toon equipped quickly indeed compared to the older starting levels. Better geared too.)
If you go out of your way to have awful gear then you might have a little more slow going in the expansion. But it would still be doable, as the upgrades were coming in and I still hadn’t hit anything hard. Remember also that greens from the new expansion will hit the AH and will probably be level appropriate for new starters. If the going gets too tough purchasing an upgrade in a slot or two might make it easier for those who aren’t confident they can do it without.
I’ve gotten questing gear enough on the beta. Mobs do hit hard though. They usually do on beta and PTR. Tuning happens later. It’s not difficult though. Just a little harder hitting. We won’t know how the difficulty will be until the release candidate build goes in, and it’s not there yet.
