Do the opposite of this is my suggestion, besides the revamping pvp part
For the TL;DR crowd scroll to the bottom of the post.
As with most players on this forum I have been a long time WoW player spanning multiple accounts across each expansion. I can’t speak in regards to high end raiding or peak arena ratings but what I can speak to is how I as an avid player of World of Warcraft for the last 15 years has felt and is feeling regarding the state of the game.
In regard to classes, I appreciate that they are attempting to reconcile the class identity amongst the individual class specs. However, I think the bigger concern (for me at least) is the problem that exists regarding class uniqueness relative to other classes. I know pruning is the equivalent of a “four letter word” amongst the WoW community but this concept that “everybody gets everything” has been draining on my desire to play multiple classes/alts for some time. The multitude of abilities and effects that allow each class to heal, stun, cc, break cc, and etc. makes the class choice feel trivial to me. That class uniqueness has been a big part of Classic’s appeal. Your class feels entirely independent of other classes. So while I am fine with bringing back core class abilities and revamping how choices are presented within the talent tree, I feel like its a bandaid/sleight of hand approach to fixing the overall problem with classes.
Secondly I, and I am probably in the minority on this one, feel like PvP has been in rough state for a good while. I appreciate the weekly PvP brawls and the different flavors they have added in that regard, but I really dislike the lack of a sense of accomplishment/progression that I have associated with PvP for quite some time. Again, probably in the minority, but I was a fan of having specific goals to work towards in order to earn pieces of gear that would give me the edge. I can’t speak to the advantages/disadvantages of Resilience or PvP Power, but I liked the idea that there were inherent advantages to spending your time PvPing vs PvEing. We were given the PvP talent tree with additional talents and what not but that feels bulky relative to my toolkit and unrewarding relative to the grind.
I have seen a lot of feedback regarding my other concerns with endgame content and the monotonous content i.e. world quests so I will leave that to the other posters.
I also want to say that I feel like there are some philosophies that have been presented in the early stages of Shadowlands that hint at the fact that the Devs are listening and adapting which is greatly appreciated from a player standpoint. Most players don’t want to be constantly hammering the forums about their discontent with the game. We all love Warcraft and the fun/entertainment/memories it has provided us for so long.
To boil it down, my main hopes for Shadowlands are as follows:
-Trimmed down classes to abilities/effects that are core to class fantasy and playability to create more class uniqueness relative to other classes.
-A PvP gear & progression system where you are working towards gear of your choice that feels rewarding in regards to choosing to PvP over PvE.
From vanilla to wrath (frozen orbs started bop but they changed that fairly soon into the xpac).
The gear was worth using, and wrath gave us profession combat perks as well.
Hi, there! I was actually at Blizzcon and testing Shadowlands Everyone was questing while my friends and I were scoping out the PVP by killing everyone. The Devs actually stopped to watch us and took the timer restriction off for us. From what I see far, they haven’t really made any changes just yet. Abilities, talents, etc are exactly the same. But, this is still the early stages. I was at the panel when they talked about class identity and what abilities our classes would be getting back. Example: Kill Shot, Shattering Though, and Auras. They did say that there is still a lot to work on. I was worried with the level scaling that everything would feel clunky and awkward but it ended up feeling just right.
Oh I agree it shouldn’t be exactly like the classic trees… but something like them would feel better to me… the current rows with 3 choices where one is the clear “winner” just feels bad. Especially when we lost baseline abilities just to have them eat up a talent slot… even worse when that former baseline ability is eclipsed by the “winner” of the row so you lose what used to be a baseline and choosing to get it back via a talent nerfs you.
At the very least I’d like the rows to have more than 3 choices and for all of them to be compelling. They dont have to be active abilities either, they can just be talents that change the way existing abilities function. Like say a talent that turns arcane explosion into a ranged aoe centered on your target but adds a short cast time for example.
holinka said there wont be much for big class changes so what you are playing in bfa you will be playing in shadowlands and it will most likely have the same pvp system because the same m+ system is there.
Good, im glad you showed the dev’s that people have interest in pvp.
Most people think pvp is a side game in wow even though pvp has it’s own separate talent tree and e sports scene.
World pvp is fun too bad there is 0 rewards for doing it.
And i love arenas but the cr system is so bad, its so hard to find ppl to que with using LFG.
I will ALWAYS try and represent the PVP community when I can, my dude. It’s my favorite aspect of the game hands down.
Its only ptr it will get fixed
Its only 9.1 it will get patched
Its only 9.2 they will fix it…
Its only 9.2.5 its just a minor update 9.3 will fix it…
9.3 well it will get fixed next expansion
Everything is pretty much decided, the beta is just a promotional period so streamers can promo the game.
If you tell them something needs changing they’ll tell you “maybe next expansion”
The only way to save Shadowlands for me is to kill Sylvanas in an opening quest line.
Are we really about to not add pvp vendors and casual PvP gear back again? cmon now.
Vanilla pretty much.
The land of hitting 60 and buying 3 BiS items, better than raid drops, right off the AH.
Eventually they got changed to BoE, but primal nethers, nether vortexes, frozen orbs, chaos crystals, etc. were alll originally BoP.
PvP gear is tricky because it very often is the path of least resistance gearing method if the gear is any decent at all.
But i guess maybe thats ok. WoD pvp gearing was praised and it was exactly this. Hit 100, afk in ashran, get full conquest gear (basically heroic raid gear) guaranteed.
