Shadowlands Not Possible for Boosted Characters (if they choose to skip the intro)

Below is my ticket as well as the responses and conversation with the “GMs”. I share it to illustrate the bug as well as to illustrate how pointless it is to open a ticket about an in-game issue.

It makes me sad that I’ve been a paying customer for nearly 15 years and this is the first time I’ve opened a ticket about a game-breaking bug, and this is the best support I can get… so disappointing.

Anyway…here goes:

INITIAL TICKET

My character, [redacted], was boosted. I want to do the Shadowlands expansion, so I accepted the quest “Shadowlands: A Chilling Summons” in Stormwind. I chose to skip the introduction, since I have already done it on previous characters.

At this point, it ported me directly to Oribos. However, the flight master is missing from the 2nd level – so, I can’t go to any of the zones.

I went to Fatescribe Roh-Tahl to try and start Threads of Fate, which is what my web searches said to do. But, he doesn’t do anything except have a conversation option. I also went to the main quest hub room to see if I could get the quest “No Place for the Living” from Overseer Kah-Delen. But, nothing there either.

I’ve tried exiting the game and I’ve run all over Oribos looking for quests …but, as best I can tell, my character must be bugged or something. …because there really is no way to progress into the Shadowlands content as far as I can tell.

I’ve been playing WoW since 2010 …a lot, so I’m not a new player. In the 14 years I’ve played the game, I’ve never come across anything like this. I’m very familiar with wowhead and I even maintain addons – so, if there is something I’m missing, it’s not obvious!

Thanks!

Follow-up: Your automated system suggested that I read article 291546, which I did. It was somewhat hard to understand what the article was talking about, but my best guess is that it was for folks who were unable to “skip” the introduction. That does not seem to be my problem. I was able to skip the intro just fine – I’m just stuck in Oribos with no way to get to Bastion or any of the other zones.

It also will not let me jump into The Maw, in case that information helps. When I jump into the hole, it just bounces me back up.

===== FIRST GM RESPONSE =====
This is Game Master Smeovvooso, and I am here to take a look at your request!

I understand that you tried to start Threads of Fate without success. I completely understand why you would want to reach out to us on this, World of Warcraft is a huge and intricate universe that can sometimes be a little on the bemusing side, even for the most experienced of players.

The Threads of Fate Campaign skip in Shadowlands is no longer available for leveling or max-level characters.
Any characters who have already chosen Threads of Fate prior to Dragonflight will be able to finish it. However, characters who never initiated Threads of Fate will be restricted only to the zone-by-zone Covenant campaign for Shadowlands.
If you already chose Threads of Fate, do not choose Chromie Time’s Shadowlands - Realms of Death. If you do switch to Realms of Death while Threads of Fate is active, you will retain most of the features of Threads of Fate, but you will lose access to World Quests until level 60.

Have a nice day, feel free to contact us again when you have any other questions,

==== MY RESPONSE ====
What you’ve stated is fine; however, it still doesn’t resolve my issue. If what you’ve stated is all true, then I should be offered a new quest next quest in the series after “Shadowlands: A Chilling Summons”, which should be “Stranger in an Even Stranger Land” – but, nothing is being offered.

I see on a comment on Wowhead that others are having this same issue (i.e., https://www.wowhead.com/quest=60129/stranger-in-an-even-stranger-land#comments:id=5473007:reply=1729423)

Anyway, if you’ll take the time to log in to my character you can see exactly the problem very easily: I can go to Oribos, but there are no quests available and no way to access the Shadowland zones other than Oribos.

Also, if you re-read my original post, I give a lot of details about the whole situation. I can promise you that this is a real bug and something that has to be fixed or else I’ll never be able to visit Shadowlands content on this character.

==== FINAL GM RESPONSE ====
Greetings, this is Game Master Taiormmos and I just received your ticket, thank you so much for your patience and don’t worry, I’ll assure you that you are in good hands!.

First of all, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience you are having regarding not seeing any quest on Oribos for Shadowlands, as a player myself I understand how frustrating this can be, but do not worry, we value your commitment with the game, so let me share the actions we are currently taken in order to address the issue.

First, check the top part of your quest log for instructions on the next quest you should be picking up. If you are seeing a quest there but when you are inside the Maw are not able to see the quest in game, check your character level. The intro questline for Shadowlands is intended for characters level 48-50. If you have leveled too far beyond that, enable your trivial quests on your minimap’s tracking options. You should see the next quest available on your zone map.

If you think this is not working as intended, we kindly suggest you to submit a Bug report on our Official forum.

Submissions posted there have the benefit of allowing a community discussion around high-impact bugs, which can occasionally help in prioritizing them. And your submission would help in getting more traction to the Bug so our Developers can be aware of it, If you want to check on a bug, we also keep a list of known active issues at the top of that forum that all players can see!.

I wish you a wonderful day, and thank you for being a valuable player to us and helping us improving the experience of the game, Please take care.

So, I created a bug report, just like they asked. Although, I’m not quite sure why they couldn’t just submit the bug report for me…
