art was amazing… but
lizzard tops decided that we couldn’t fly to see a better take due to them being damn retarded… finally they have learnt?
I loved SL. Class design and combat were great. Visual design was amazing. I was a fan of covenants and Torghast. A lot of the story was lacking, but it was a good premise going in. They definitely could have explored a lot more. I wish Kyrian stories and design were centered more around the spirit healers and the Veil. I wish the Maw were more foreboding and I wish we had more patches bring us somewhere other than the Maw.
And I really wish we would see the consequences of everything that happened. We should be purging the undead now swarming like locusts across Azeroth, unbound by a Lich King: “…without the control of its master, the Scourge would run rampant across the world - destroying all living things.” The universe should be facing an existential threat as promised by Zovaal upon his defeat: “A cosmos divided will not survive what is to come.” At least we got some magic beans and planted us a World Tree, now.
I loved Shadowlands the first three times I went through it. The next five times I ended up using threads of fate because the storylines had gotten stale and I knew what was coming. I absolutely hated the maw and I was 50-50 when it came to Korthia. Zereth Mortis Felt like they were just trying to keep us busy until dragonflight.

The point I’m getting at is most enemies “threaten” reality. It’s as big a meme as trolls being used as a filter raid/dungeon.
I didn’t like it .
Graphics were nice in terms of being a bit different from the rest of wow as someone pointed out.
I didn’t like the systems most of all. To me it was tedious. I actually enjoyed the very first play through of the campaign quite a bit. But once was good enough.
Kinda like how there’s some movies the first time you see it you are like ok that wasn’t bad but you also wouldn’t go out of your way to see it again.
That’s the feeling SL gave me.
From my perspective, being someone who only heals, I think Shadowlands was pretty good overall. I personally liked BFA slightly better, but Shadowlands felt like mostly a continuation of BFA with a few tweaks. In retrospect, abilities like soulshape and podtender were great game features, to which we have no equivalent now.
There was that one Shadowlands M+ season where they really messed up the tuning. I think it was Season 2? But they eventually fixed things for the most part. And really, M+ in TWW is worse now than any time in Shadowlands.
it was mine too and i almost quit wow
with how bad it was lol. classic saved the day.
I hate it, i was doing old content to get some mounts, awful, zereth mortis might be the weirdest place to exist like that, robots in the land of dead, lol
I only liked torghast
the combination of blizzard butchering a beloved character ( arthas )
the story being super silly beyond iq lvls of dumb ( player character doing mistakes is okay but beings that are millions of years old and bastly more powerful and inteligent than you tripping out their own two feet to make a mistake that helps the story move forward is so bad )
cut content galore ( ardenweald, the drust, the devourer storyline ,denathrius, fourth raid along with all of zereth mortis )
terrible systems that were slowly fixed through the years until the finished product which youre experiencing now.
torghast being forced to progress and such they also butchered torghast. went from a cool endless mode tower with rewards at to the highest floor runner to this disjointed cluster of solo dungeons that nobody liked specially the fire dungeon.
months and months of content drought partially because of covid but still we had at one point 7 months of no new content. then s4 lol ( which it wasnt horrible in the end but eh…
none of this helped the reception of the expansion and the game bled. at least in m+ numbers millions of players. i dunno if the casual crowd cared much.
ah yeah the death pantheon being a freaking scientology wet dream and all of our gods are printed in the giant printer in hell
it wasnt all bad but it was a sh!t sandwich after sh!t sandwich
i dont recall how was it in shadowlands but at least compared to df
s1 of tww is doing great
taking into account all the players removed form the pool because nobody does +2 to +6s tww is doing much better than s1 of df.
I just recently ran Sepulcher for fun on an alt and doing it in a chill run I thought the raid was very nice looking and the music very good. I remember not liking Zereth Mortis much at all though. This was also an expansion that came out as everyone was dealing with COVID and we had to wait sometimes what felt like an eternity between patches for anything.
Yeah u didnt know better… had u played Legion or MoP or any of the first 3 u wouldve thoight differently like many
Shadowlands was beautiful but that was all it had going for it for many.
- People bottlenecked into a particular covenant due to class balance.
- Being forced into Torghast to grind out ash for legendaries.
- No mount riding in the Maw and forced to trek there for Stygia.
- Grinding renown, followers, mission tables, other tedious systems.
- Terrible story, Uther the Smurf, Pelagos the Crybaby, Blue ball Arthas etc.
The first major patch being Korthia (uninspired dead field) was the death nail imo.
This thread is about Shadowlands so I don’t know why you posted about dragonflight.
But your own graph clearly shows that participation is lower compared to Season 1 of DF.
and saying “but but but delves” isn’t a reason, it’s a cheap excuse. You could probably explain away every dip in every curve if you wanted, but the bottom line is that less people are playing. You don’t get to use funny math “because delves”.
In my experience, the majority of the people latching onto Delves are people who almost never played M+ anyway unless they were carried, with others maybe doing Delves just to get a few extra vault options.
there is a mode that directly trivializes content form another mode. im not defending anything. im just making a point lol. and asuming the trend continues tww will have more m+ players than df s1 without counting the loss of players that delves took.
look youre right about one thing this is a shadowlands thread so ima leave it at that.
do try to calm down tho.
god i forgot about that. i also remember the mount you could farm from torghast to be able to ride in the place. got that thing as fast as i could only to have the no riding removed after. was a slap in the face but at least it was good for everyone else but me heh.
when i first saw korthia i thought it was going to be like the old ff14 zones where you reconstruct an area to make it livable. oh man how wrong i was. that curator guy or w.e his name was is probably still inside that cave with all of his artifacts in it.
Yeah, I think the fact we were stuck in 9.0 for practically a year (9 months, Oct 2020 - Jun 2021) only to be told we’ll be exploring a dead field and collecting artifacts or whatever was what really drove people over the edge in despising Shadowlands. So not only was Korthia super boring, but we also had to watch that Sylvanas redemption cinematic where the Jailer collects the Infinity Stones or whatever. Bad stuff, in an already grindy tedious mess of an xpac.
- Player power locked behind obnoxious covenant system that was real difficult to change
- Conduit energy meant changing specs could only be done a few times a day, which hurt people who play both PvE and PvP
- The story was a catastrophic mess to the lore
- The Maw was incredibly tedious and until the Eye of the Jailer was removed, had a time limit per day for how long you could stay
- Torghast was mandatory (and people kept spelling it Thorgast)
- The freaking hideous dungeon/questing gear
- Long 9.0
- Korthia grinding
- Legendaries and crafting to unlock Rank 4
- Obnoxious quests that had you fighting elites with almost no damage buffs, which made them a slog
- Stupid anima conductor dailies that took 20-30 minutes to do, per quest
- Oribos Interdimensional Airport
I could go on
Nathria is like finding a gold nugget in a landfill.
finding the last infinity stone.
ancient being ( necrolord master blacksmith guy ) does not know what to do “oh i know lets bring it to GOD DAMNED doorstep of the person we are keeping this away from”
then proceed to be told the literal same by the runecarver which went to all the trouble to hide it in the first place lol.
