I love the idea of being able to level in a single zone and I’m looking forward to it. But I do have a question: How will Loremaster work for those of us who maybe have only 1 expac or less to complete? Personally, I was almost done with it prior to Cata. I couldn’t get it all done before launch and it was all totally reset. Now, I have Northrend to complete. Even though I have 2 areas completed that were on an Alliance alts, and 2 that were completed on Horde alts, I still have 4 other areas that I’m working on. Northrend has 8 total sub-achieves.
After seeing one of the Blizzcon attendees ask the same question. Ion’s answer gave me the impression that they hadn’t really thought about how this was going to be handled. I sure hope that somehow I won’t lose my progress and that the Alli/Horde separation can be reconciled. The latter may be too much to ask but heck, if the sky’s the limit, why not put it out there.
And there’s one more thing about Northrend. There are half a dozen group quests. 3 of them require that the party members also be on the same quest. They are phased otherwise. Can these be nerfed for singler players or at the least, allow you to group with anyone to help you complete them?

Considering it was changed to be “complete quest chains in each zone”, there would be no reason to change it at all without also removing/replacing the quest chains in every zone.
They changed how it was in Cata and wiped out all progress. In Northrend now, it’s definitely chapters and sections. I remember questing in other zones where there was just a total number of quests and your progress was x out of y number of quests completed until you reached the max.
At this point in the game, quest XP rewards diminish as you out-level the zone. The method of awarding XP will have to be adjusted for all the zones. And as I mentioned, there are a number of quests that are group quests and all members of the group have to be on the quest or the group is phased. There will have to be tweaks and sometimes it’s just easier to wipe everything out and start over, which I hope they won’t do. But that’s what they did in Cata.

You can level one character in each expansion and probably finish Loremaster.
But wait, no zone is closed to you. If you only level a single character, you can take that character to every zone in the game and complete Loremaster on it. You can still choose to jump zones at any time and can complete quests even if you out level them.
You also don’t need to complete every quest in the zone to finish Loremaster. But if party quests are required then party sync should allow others to complete them with you.
