Shadowlands is the Fastest Selling PC Game of All Time

Here’s some facts for those who’ve been making forum posts claiming Shadowlands is dead and/or subs are low:

By day one of launch on November 23rd, Shadowlands had sold over 3.7 million copies!
For comparison, Legion only sold 3.3 million copies at launch.

  • In the months leading up to Shadowland’s release and the time since launch, the game reached and has sustained its highest number of players on monthly or longer-term subscriptions compared to the same period ahead of and following any WoW expansion in the past decade, in both the West and the East.

  • Players have spent more time in Azeroth year to date than in the same period of any of the last 10 years.

  • In addition, total player time in game this year to date has nearly doubled compared to the same period last year.

Sauces:

p.s. for those who say “there’s a pandemic”, don’t forget that Shadowlands isn’t the only new game released during the pandemic, including highly anticipated AAA/mainstream pc games, all with preorders and the whole nine yards too, and Shadowlands day 1 sales out did even those.

Isn’t there a worldwide pandemic keeping people in their homes more than anytime in the last 10 years? That may have something to do with it. Maybe.

There were a lot more other games other than Shadowlands that was released in 2020.

Yeah it’s due to half the world being on shut down. What else are you going to do. I don’t believe it. Forums have been raging since release. Before even.

This just in! WoW isn’t dead!

every day there’s at least 1-2 posts claiming (without any proof) subs being low, people quitting, etc.

Simply jump to the main general forum page, scroll down some to load up a decent amount of posts, press ctrl+f and type sub or type dead… That or do a forum search and look at all the recent multiple daily posts.

Well, i view posts like that on here the same way i do frivolous court battles in the face of a definite conclusion… without proof, they’re just words that other people said.

Only thing I wonder is if Cyberpunk can dethrone Shadowlands. Guess we’ll find out in two days.

You do realize that all of the “First Day Sales” include Pre-orders right?
You do realize that there is a Global Pandemic on right now making many more people stay home than go in to the office right?
You do realize that First Day Sales are not good indicators of overall expansion health and that MAU is still WAY down?

pmuch the pandemic, plus not much competition this year as far as games tbh.

All these simp responses

The Legion figure did not include prepurchases. That has since been changed. So likely Legion sold more, since the numbers are not comparable.

In comparison, the BfA number was 3.4 million. The difference is not significant.

I’d like your source on those sub numbers. The last half of 8.3 was dead in BfA content.

you do realize there were a hell of a lot more games than just shadowlands released in 2020 during the pandemic too right? Major AAA releases from far more popular mainstream franchises, etc.

Fastest Selling is not the highest selling - go away troll.

the source is in the links on the OP, it’s literally quoted from the source itself and directly from Blizzard :stuck_out_tongue: can’t get any more accurate on sub number claims than directly from blizzard itself.

But they’re not even competing lol. Wildly different genre and game. I plan to play both.

People are using a press release as a source?

It’s basically a form of advertising.

when it comes to game sales, genre doesn’t matter in the world of money and volume. Of all genres, shadowlands is sitting at the top atm of day 1 game sales in the PC market.
