I have been playing WoW for nearly 18 years*, and Shadowlands is the first time I have been so bored that I can barely play 45 minutes to an hour at a stretch. From the moment I chose to begin the Shadowlands content, I have been led by the nose: go here and do 2 quests, then go here and do 2 quests, then go here and do 2 quests, etc. Sometimes in between there’s a cut scene. Shadowlands questing is like a Choose Your Own Adventure book where the bottom of each page only has a single option to go to the next page. Fun gaming involves making choices, but I think Blizzard has become gunshy about giving options to players.
I have 2 questions now: At what point do I get to play an actual game again? And will my alts be required to slog through this nonsense every time or will they be able to skip ahead to the fun part?
In Legion and BfA you could at least choose your starting zone. And each zone, after an initial batch of quests, offered some branching. It all ended up the same, but at least there was some minimal choice involved.
Im about ready to dive into classic while i still have sub time. Really kicking myself for not waiting the month i told myself to wait for SL before buying…but with all the lockdown BS i figured it couldnt possible be worse off than BFA…
Well some of the content and gear might be better than BFA but i find myself missing the overwhelming amount of just normal questing BFA had before i had to really worry about all the crappy gear systems
Now i get to deal with the crappy gear system thats woven into multiple pieces of content thats just not fun. And everything i like is capped like im some crack head that needs wow content drip fed or ill overdose…
Shadowlands is amazing. Been playing WoW since BC and this is the first time since Wrath and Cata ive actually enjoyed it.
So many amazing things to do. Rare hunting and the pin concept is fantastic. Treasure hunting is fun. Doing my Covenent quests are actually well done and give awesome rewards. Increasing my reknown, farming anima, recruiting followers, getting new forms for my shapeshift, tons of quests everywhere, tons of ways to make gold, I just got a random Epic drop and sold it for 200k. The Maw is a unique and interesting concept that actually feels different from other areas. Torghast is an entirely new genre thrown into the game and it happens to be one of my favorite genres, Roguelite. Professions are actually useful and fun to level. Cooking and fishing also. The Blanchy rare mount was one of the coolest little quests ive done to date. I havent even gotten around to discovering my legendary items. My Class feels great for the first time since Cata/MoP. Dungeons are fantastic and well done. Secrets actually feel, secret. I actually need to figure them out and they are actually involved. Awesome sets, conduit system is fun and lets me choose.
Theres just so much good about this expansion that hasnt existed in a long time. Every complaint you have has been in the game since launch. You are making very weak arguments and probably just hate MMOs.
Ah here we go, the inevitable “there’s nothing to do even though the expansion hasn’t even been out two weeks yet” posts. Happens every expansion. Move along folks
Well dont misunderstand me. You are assuming a lot which is pretty dense. I enjoyed the game enough to stick around in BC, Wrath and Cata. I skipped MoP after they went on a nerfing mission to dungeons and released LFR, as the game was clearly made for toddlers at that point. Pandas kind of sealed the idea that this was the case (I like Pandas, but the whole feel was very 12 year oldish in how they did it). Came back for WoD, quit on the first month, was terrible. Legion was interesting, but not enough to stay around. BFA was awful and I quit immediately and Shadowlands is the first time im feeling like I want to stick around since then.
Is that clearer? I haven’t been playing all this time. Ive specifically stopped playing when I realized the expansion wasn’t what I wanted and Shadowlands has changed this feeling. If you mean to say I need to help for properly diving into a game before coming to conclusions then I think you are very strange and illogical.

Now you’re saying you virtually haven’t actually played since Cata, which makes your “it’s the first time since Cata” claim just ridiculous. Saying Shadowlands is amazing after barely a week is equally ridiculous considering your admitted lack of staying power with every expansion since Cata.
