Shadowlands is already over

The fundamentals in the game isnt working anymore and its obvious as 9.1 is rolling out that the devs have no idea about what that even is
If u are a dev and playing Shadowlands and cannot understand that the game desperately needs Solo queue function in PvP (and maybe even PvE) it means youre not only out of touch with the wow player base
It means you are out of touch with todays entire gaming industry

The min/maxing phenomenon is here to stay, it doesnt only mean maximizing your characters output.
It also means that you want to maximize your playing time. Max activity time and Min down time
Because of this, this isnt something that is unique to WoW. This exists everywhere in gaming today
Succesfull games today are basicaly just a one click button to play and boom the game is engaging

Then we have WoW: Shadowlands

The moment you ding 60 it means youre already Months behind everyone else becasue of the Soul Ash system
Youre days behind others because of the Renown System
Youre competitiveness is drastically reduced because of the extremely slow gearing system, because of the class balance system and because of the covenant system
On top of this, the majority of the time in the game you will sit in LFG doing nothing(Both in PvP and PvE) and the Class (FOTM or not) and Faction youre playing determines how long the wait time will be

Imagine making a game in todays standard with these conditions and thinking youre gonna be succesfull

THE REWARD SYSTEM IS AT ROCK BOTTOM

Here is a quote to start this off

"
We as humans like to be rewarded for what we do, whether it’s a pat on the back for a job well done, or an employee of the month plaque on the wall of the break room.
It’s in our nature, we are wired to enjoy such rewards, we like to have a proclamation of our successes and skills, >> this in turn motivates us to continue to do good work
This motivation comes from a little thing called Dopamine that is released by nerve cells in our brain to other important nerve cells.
The main symptom of Dopamine is that when it’s released it signals our reward-satisfaction feelings.
This obviously is a good feeling to have, and is why humans love to be rewarded in some way, because being rewarded releases Dopamine.
"

Reward system for M+, Raiding and PvP are currently all at their worst state ever in WoW history.
There has been nothing done to make anything of this better in Shadowlands the only thing that has happend is that all 3 has had their rewards amounts reduced drastically
Everyone of my friends who quit Shadowlands are saying the same thing. The game does not make you feel worth your time
BoE Farming raids feels more rewarding than doing the actual bosses. Seriously, its embarrasing

There are 2 ways this game has been developed over the years

  1. You make the player feel rewarded with plenty of items but the perfect item is very rare (Peak of this was Legion but the majority of expansion are designed like this) (Basically whats it like to BoE Farm Raids in SL)

  2. You reward players very little but when item drops they should always be upgrades (SL)

Both of these methods are different ways to reach the same goal, to try to keep the player in the game longer
The difference between them tho is that one of them creates very frequent dopamine releases and the other doesnt

What changes in 9.1 when talking about reward for your effort ratio?
Nothing.

(Prediction) Classic will “overtake” Retail

If the current way Retail is designed continues there will be a switch between what the majority of the player base is playing.

There are 2 Reasons behind this

  1. The majority of earlier expansions of WoW and Vanilla all have a functioning reward system
  2. The Release of a Classic Expansion is done by launching it with the final build
This means the game launches with a very polished product which completely counters retails biggest flaw of launching a product that doesnt acctualy feel its supposed to be out of Beta

Because of this eventualy more and more people are going to swap from Retail to Classic as their favorite expansion is being released
I dont think the “overtaking” will happen in TBC but when WOTLK releases as a Classic version which we all know is gonna happen at some point I think Classic might acctualy have a very good shot to overtake Retail

Stop asking for solo que and make some actual friends.

Since the expansion is over were all playing classic and waiting for TBC. My guess is that you will eventually join us in either TBC or WOTLK

Classic was trash. I might play tbc just because it has arena.

Either way point still stands.

solo q already exists? i dont understand

Months behind on soul ash for a new lvl 60? No. Not even close to accurate. Could they up the payout of soul ash to make it that much easier to craft or boost legendaries? Sure.

Renown is easy to catch up on, so no again.

The argument around solo-q has been around for years and has nothing to do with Shadowlands, if that’s a deciding factor in your enjoyment of the game then you should have quit years ago.

Nathria is a fun raid but I realize that is a subjective position to take so you’re fine to feel that way in regards to farming BoEs. I would say though if that is how you’re spending your time playing the game then of course you’re going to get bored.

Say what you want about Shadowlands but it has been one of their more successful launches when it comes to their systems and tweaks needed post-launch. I think the prevailing issue now is the setback caused by Covid-19 and the lack of content that will even make 9.1 feel too sparse. Hopefully they can get back on track quickly with the patches.

Ahh so this is the real point of the thread.

Huh??? you talk about solo queue then your go to classic and TBC ??

You cannot judge the success or failure of an entire game due to the absence of a single feature

this is the part that annoys me the most about wow. i didnt play legion but people say the game was fixed at 7.3. i would say bfa was fixed by 8.3 AFTER the vendors were introduced. 8.3 still had its issues, specifically for new players, and pvp gearing being nonexistent for examples. for whatever reason, they dont build on what they learn the playerbase enjoy. well, i guess an issue would be certain players like certain things. i would imagine we could all agree, people dont like timegated content. they did it with essences and they did it with covenants.

SL is over?

Sucks, was still having fun

So people who want solo queue content are going to leave Shadowlands to go to a version of the game with much lower gear drops, slower gearing, and no solo queue anything?

Sounds legit.

If one of your biggest gripes is reward acquisition, why would you suggest “classic” as an alternative? Gear didn’t exactly rain from the sky back then…

235 Leggy is 5.1k+ Soul Ash?. 1 week is 1.1k and entire quest line is 900 ash.
How long is this?

Also since the game has been out for a while it means the norm is now at least 2-3 235 leggys which means u can multiply the total u get above by 2 or 3

lmao it doesnt.

classic already saved WoW’s subcount back at launch lmao, ya know when the game dropped to 3M or so subs because bfa was the worst pos we’ve ever seen to this day. I even remember logging into retail once, listing 3s groups on LFG and only seeing one which said “2k cr 2.5k+ exp”. I applied with season1 gear and 0 cr/experience in bfa arena, instantly invited into the group and played like 10 matches before the guys called it. There was literally no one online it felt like a private server.

So far I cant see SL do that badly lol. Then you’re delusional if you think the current PvP gear system is “the worst its been”. In fact it was so good PvP boost demand went into space.

Combat just isn’t fun any more.

They turned it all up to 11. CC, interrupts, get out fires, mobs warping everywhere. There doesn’t seem to be any design to it. Just MORE MORE MORE. Hey lets add three things that need to be interrupted in 10 seconds. And if you interrupt it it just tries to recast immediately. Lets add a pack where every mob casts a fear at the same time. All gimmicks and mechanics. No core game loop or rotation.

A lot of people want to blame the AoE cap, and the problem is it isn’t an AoE cap. It’s just a way to get specs that specialize in a particular pull size with their AoE. Which in principle is great but in practice where one play style ends up reigning supreme the specs that fit that play style best out perform everyone else.

Since TBCC is going to die just as quickly as Classic did, that’s highly unlikely.

Devs don’t play the game like normal players do. The few we know of who do play are raid loggers who don’t even do their chores. They are trying to reestablish the glory of vanilla, when only players who belonged to the right clique in the right kind of guild had access to end content. Restricted access for most players will surely make the game epic again.

Ion is in charge of everything as game director. He doesn’t do PvP. He doesn’t do professions. He doesn’t do alts. He doesn’t do any content outside of his guild.

He has designed the game that he wants to play.

Solo queue is pointless, you’ll just be sitting in it for hours anyway because tanks and healers won’t be using it. Go be social, it’s an MMO.

No thanks, already played both. I prefer new content.

HAHAHAHAHA! Good one. PvP being predominantly real money boosting is good for the game. OMGLMAO.
