As you know in Shadowlands there’s the four Covenants, who each have an ‘Example Soul’ that engaged there. For instance, Kael’Thas went to Revendreth, Draka went to the Necrolords, Cenarius once towards the Night Fae (Though Tyrande will be playing a part in that Covenant), and Uther the Lightbringer went to the Kyrian covenant.
Now aside from the mentioned above, there’s been some datamined data along with some shared knowledge from the beta that we’ll be engaging with some other well-known / established characters. I for one am hoping there’s a larger range of characters established from each faction that get to dabble in providing questlines and venturing forth into the lore.
For example, if I go to Revendreth I’m hoping we get to see an Alliance hero who also had arisen from a dubious soul to a noble champion much like Kael’Thas (Personally, I’d like to see Edwin VanCleef), and that there’s a Horde champion in Ardenweald (Night-Fae) that has a questline as opposed to Tyrande’s story; and so on with the other Covenants. I feel this would flesh out further equality and incentive for the players insight to each Covenant with still aligning to the faction pride.
Feel free to comment your ideas, opinions, etc; alas I have not been blessed to play the beta myself so if you can provide insight to such (If it’s already in motion / there’s more of a mix than expressed on WoWhead and media) please feel free to express such.
I think we help everyone regardless of faction. The Horde players seem to be helping with the whole Tyrande/Nightwarrior thing and I suspect the Alliance will be assisting with Vol’jin’s stuff when ever it comes up.
As for Revendreth, I am not sure if I would call Kael’thas a noble champion as such. From what I have seen he is still a somewhat smarmy bastard. I would be curious to see who they could put from the Horde into Bastion. Not sure who we have who has died who fits into that place. Of course, they all turn into blue humans so it would be hard to tell anyway.
The Covenant Champions, as in the followers, are all new characters and are limited to three per faction.
Kael isn’t a fallen Horde hero though. With blood elves on the Horde and void elves on the Alliance, Kael does fit both. Seems weird to argue for an Alliance counterpart when he isn’t a Horde character to begin with.
Also I’m not sure Edwin was evil enough to end up in Revendreth. Revendreth is the “last chance” before the Maw. The only Alliance characters I can think of that would’ve ended up in Revendreth is Arthas and Fandral Staghelm.
Then I have good news! Vol’jin’s storyline also continues with the Night Fae, with him coming into the Winter Queen’s care.
Alexandros Mograine is also a Necrolord, so that works for your ideal balance, one Horde (Draka) one Alliance (Mograine) and heck one neutral (Vashj)
I think the biggest issue with this idea at the moment is when characters started being funneled to the Maw. If it’s post wrath, then most of our characters died some time after the maw began sucking all the souls into it.
The “John Hight & Johnny Cash SHADOWLANDS Interview! | BLIZZCON 2019!” interview on YouTube revealed that it broke during Third invasion of the Burning Legion.
So anyone who was killed prior to Legion went to their proper place.
One thing that could be a reference to that is:
" Other hammers here now. Dey talk and talk bout Argus. Bout da one dat got wakened. Bout great victory dat our enemy not even notice."
The great victory could be the breaking of the machine. Argus might be time reference or something that happened there broke the machine.
there does seems to be some attempt at giving each zone a character each faction might recognize, or at least be able to relate to
necrolords have morgan and draka, bastion has uther and I would guess someone will make an appearance later on. ardenweald has voljin and tyrande. venthyr have keal
although maybe venthyr and bastion were made to be unique in each having only one character with a vague tie to each faction.
Who would be put into Bastion that would be worthy of being Uther’s Horde counterpart? I Know they use Original Grom as Uther’s counterpart for one of the Mini-Holidays but does Grom fit Bastion?
We wouldn’t want a repeat of when Draka was mentioned as the Horde Character as Uther was mentioned as the Alliance one. It came off very underwhelming.
And would Kael be considered a Horde Character even though he was never affiliated with the Horde in the game? Or is he a neutral character with ties to both sides?
I would say maybe MU Durotan, or even AU Durotan, but Blizzard went the other way completely. Having both he and Draka at the start of the expac might be a different story than they want to tell. Maybe they will meet later down the line, and even have tea with Thrall.
MU Doomhammer comes close to a sort of Horde Bastion type, if he had to be in one of the covenants. But I am not sure what happened to his soul or where he is.
I was gunna say Nazgrim but the DKs got him… otherwise he would be the prime candidate.
Well Revendryth and Maldraxxus both also have Kel’thuzad and from what I can tell, Bolvar and the Ebon Blade are going to play a role in the storyline in Revendreth(I assume the Convenant storyline)
I’m mostly happy with Characters we’ll find in Shadowlands. Everyone knows by now I’m going straight to Arenweald so I can quest with Tyrande and extra bonus being Vol’jin because I do like the guy.
Uther? What’s not to like? Insta nostalgia from WC3 and also he was the voice of reason Arthas never heard so I like him too.
Kael’thas? my Night Elf Mage is Fire because of him. Tyrande saved him once so it’s my duty to save him now.
Maldraxxus has Alexandros who’s got a nice lore and background but overall I’ll get to kick Kel’thusad’s butt once more.
As long as Tyrande lives through the expansion and doesn’t step down from being our leader I dare say there’s a good chance I might actually enjoy the ride.
My wishes for Shadowlands?
Ardenweald: Show me as many know Wild Gods as possible. Perhaps even another glimps pf Elune in the form of a Moonlight or something.
Revendreth: I’d like to see Fandral Staghelm. He was evil and all but remember the Nightmare took advantage of his grieving because of his death son.
Maldraxxus: Not entirely sure but as long as they feed me lore about Frostmourne and the Helm I’m happy.
Bastion: Maybe after helping Uther we get to have a reunion with the OG Paladins?
That’s so stupid that as a Horde character you have to help Tyrande, who is likely to kill you the minute she keys eyes on you, and why would the horde want to her live, other to depower her? What’s the point of encouraging us to play both factions, like they did in BfA, if you only have to play one to get the experience of helping heroes from both sides?
This is what leads Horde players to complain about Tyrande being mean and ruining their player experience.
Yeah, the entire Maladraxxus cast (sans Draka, who literally no one cares about) is fantastic. The uh. Aesthetic is not my thing? I’d much rather have big ole castles like Revendreth. But, Vashj? Kel’Thuzad? Alexandros? All in one zone? And the Primus allegedly being the architect behind Frostmourne?
If that’s the case I’d like for Tyrande to give some dialog to the Horde players, and Vol’Jin some dialog to the Alliance players, along with a ‘It’s nothing personal; it’s just the right thing to do at the time for my people’ ordeal, then along the track, getting along rather well with the player.
