Shadowlands could unlock Undead Druids

Based on what we are seeing in Ardenweald and on the Drust from Kul Tiras, I am thinking that there may be a path to undead druidism that was previously not conceivable in WOW lore.

In fantasy in general, there are lots of examples of death-druids, but in WOW so far, they did a good job of keeping druids associated fairly strictly with life, and growth based on life, but in BFA that all changed with the appearance of the Drust. Those new additions run counter to previous lore, where druids are using druid magic and also quite closely tied to death and undeath. Now we have Ardenweald, a second location in game where druidism, and nature magic, and death (and the drust) are all linked. In fact, based on how the wild gods get recycled, we can say, they have been undead nature gods this whole time and we never even knew it.

I am hopeful that they will complete the circle on this, and give forsaken players a stab at undead druids with some obviously cool druid forms, undead wolf, undead bear, undead moonkin, undead bird, undead seal. And the magic would probably look something like the drust black/blue or, perhaps, the green found in the necromantic ogres of Exile’s Reach

One more point to be made are the NE undead from the War of Thorns. Those who were druids could potentially still have a link to their druidic magic and present a great opportunity for Horde Undead Druids

I seriously hope not. We need more restrictions, not less.

Lorewise, it is possible since BFA. I have never understood why WOW took druids down that path, druids in lots of other games more closely resemble the druids of RL. Pagan/Druids were priests of both life and death. In wow, they are almost half of what they should be, the Drust should have been in the game since its beginning.

I thought druids channelled their shapeshifting abilities by communing with nature to acquire characteristics of different animals. If an undead druid wanted to protect his or her allies, would they really try to empathize with the characteristics of a rotting bear corpse?

I request undead shamans as well then!

I dunno I mean you cannot argue against the Drust being druids, and they are also undead/associated with death magic. I think protection is protection, when a Kul Tiran druid dons a boney wicker looking druid form to protect their allies, I don’t think those being protected mind

Think KT druids are the closest you will get. The drust version of druidism focuses more on the death part of the cycle than the life, hence the forms covered in briars and thorns, plants that choke and kill. Being undead is unnatural and a break in the cycle.

This is blasphemy.

Would they be true druids? Or just fleshcraft masters?

At first I was like nah, but then I’m thinking skeletal bears? boomchickens? …could be neat to look at for a hot minute

Undeath is unnatural, so a class based in nature for them would be weird to say the least.

I’ve always wanted Blood Elf Druids, now I’m thinking Undead Druids might be where it’s at. Just thinking of how great the different forms would be has me wanting them.

But they already exist in the Drust, and how can that be if what you say is true?

Also, Ardenweald teaches that at least for some, returning to the “waking world” is part of the cycle that’s already been happening. Ursoc, and all the rest of the fallen Wild Gods have been resurrected many times, how is that so different? Undead are risen.

Makes the class and race cultures meaningless.

They are already in game (Drust) don’t see why it cannot be a thing. Makes a lot more sense than some of the other WOW shenanigans - i.e. gnome warriors

What is your argument to the Drust, that already exist in game and are undead/death druids?

Not if the devs write meanings for why they’re able to be those combinations

Drust druids aren’t the same. If you don’t understand what people are saying about undeath being unnatural in relation to druidism you’re being wilfully ignorant.

I’ve seen a lot of druid suggestions. While I’d love skeletal forms it shouldn’t happen.

Tbh anything beyond Tauren/Ne shouldn’t have had druids.
