Shadowlands campaign without Threads of Fate is awful

Didn’t realise threads of fate was going away and got my monk into Shadowlands a couple days too late to get the skips. It’s ridiculous that you can hit 60 while still in Maldraxxas and assuming you actually want to get the Covenant you still have to grind out the Maw, Ardenweald and Revendreth.

While I know it’s only a couple days til DF drops this is a poor design for people who’ve completed this so many times. Frankly threads of fate should have remained available for anyone who’d completed the campaign at least once. Or failing that, once you hit 60 there should be an option to choose a covenant and skip over the last of the campaign.

This for sure. Then again, I’m never going back there.

Wut? I just hit 60 last night and went to Oribos just to get rid of the quest. I was offered Threads of Fate.

As far as I can tell it’s no longer available. Went there on my monk who’d never hit Shadowlands and it was gone. I’ll check and see if it becomes available again now that I’m 60 but I don’t expect it.

Agreed… removing Threads of Fate was another bone-head decision. Another reason SL will die in a pit before I ever go back there.

Still it does fall in line with my theory but dev’s purposely make old content less desirable in an effort to push players to the new content… I think their ego’s get hurt if you choose to play or even prefer content they they didn’t either write or work on the project. Destroying old content is becoming a theme.

I went there on an alt not yet at 60 and got the standard campaign option.

Perhaps it’s different if you make your first trip already at 60?

This is why I am am on alt #8 levelling via invasions. Boring? Absolutely, but I really did not want to go through that gated SL again. I just wanted my alts to get to 60 (they are all 47-50) and have gear equivalent to doing ZM (252), I think that will suffice starting areas of DF if I decide to get them to 70.

It was still there for me the other day on my new evoker.

./shrug

It was there a day or two ago for my evoker. But (a) the evoker was 60 and (b) that was before the last reset. I assume the reset took away threads of fate. Either that or evokers are just treated differently to other classes.

Dude just stay in Legion until you go to the isles

That doesn’t help if you actually want to unlock the covenant. There are people who may want (for example) the Kyrian transmogs or mounts because they’ve done Night Fae or Maldraxxi already but not Kyrian. That means they’re going to be forced to grind through the whole campaign before they can even chose the covenant, then grind the renown before they can get the mounts/transmogs.

Or I guess switch the covenant on their main, but even then is there still a renown grind to catch up?

Ironically, I want the ability to skip the content, but I get what you’re saying.

When I reached level 60 I went back to oribos and was offered threads of fate and got to choose my covenant. The npc was over by the oribos inn npc.

I believe there’s a npc in Oribos that, once you hit lvl 60, will offer “threads of fate” but it’s just a breadcrumb that allows you to start the covenant campaign. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of this npc, but it has “fate” in the name.

No. I have 14 other 60’s. I got offered FATE last night.

Last night would have been before reset right? If so it might be different now.

Anyway, I’m going to try what Mofos and Slogosh said and look for the NPC again after the current maintenance. My monk dinged 60 about 15 minutes before tonight’s maintenance so I didn’t get a chance to check.

That’s why I was so confused by people saying ToF was bad.

You literally get to fly around doing bonus objectives and world quest to level. How is that worse than a linear quest campaign that you’ve already completed?

to clarify, I meant the individual character’s first trip being at 60.

I also have a bunch of other 60s, but the character I sent there yesterday was sub-60 and had not yet been there at all.

Previously I went on a 60 who had also not yet been there and did see Threads offered to bypass the campaign. However there were no bonus objectives in any of the zones for renown.

I think the level of the individual character might be the difference.

I’m more peeved I was forced into Dragonflight when my character hit 60. And then I can no longer access Chromie time.

I’m tired of all these leveling gotchas. I’m tired of new players being forced into BFA. There’s 50 million quest in every area because of the leveling changes. New players are overwhelmed no matter what you do.

It definitely does suck having to do the entire Shadowlands storyline if you want to do any of the “end-game” content there. We’re supposed to be the story-free game Blizzard. Not follow FF14’s forced habits.
