In comparison here are some dates from BFA
The expansion was announced at Blizzcon on November 3, 2017. Battle for Azeroth started restricted [alpha testing]in early February 2018.
Public beta testing began in late April 2018.
Blizzard revealed the release date on April 5, 2018 alongside a collector’s edition
5 months later BFA was launched in Aug
I’m thinking Sep-Oct for Shadowlands
They have a schedule and it isn’t now
I am thinking Shadowlands was announced way before it was ready to be announced, but they basically had to show off something to prove that there was indeed something coming after BfA.
I’d say the alpha won’t start for at least another month (but realistically 2 months).
They might have learned their lesson and are taking their time?
One could hope that is the case.
There is not going to be an alpha or beta test. Straight from development to release.

Id say we will see closed beta in about a months time. We are still on the world first race and they need time for the people who will get it time to clear the raid before letting them test new content
IF alpha doesn’t show up by March then yes it will be late IMO.
Because not every expac needs to launch in August? They should take their time.
your playing shadowlands now all you will end up doing is getting your rng lootbox on tuesdays for your rng upgrades,grind a tower instead of an island and lfr,n,h raids since most cant do mythic.

Many of the streamers and other that where invited to alpha was no help PR wise for BFA, they may keep it in house this time around and not even say anything about it until beta comes ready to roll out.

Shadowlands is going to test players’ patience if it is BFA 2.0.
Alpha will start on December 31st, the release date. Level and test the game at the same time!
They should take their time and invite less streamers. They need to actually aim for testers, people who will try the content and give feedback that they will then listen to rather than ignore. On top of that, most streamers and YouTubers are just getting on the hate train to get more views. Them and their fandoms are fairly low quality for determining a good game.
Considering the final cloak upgrade is in September, I would expect a September or October release, or even December to wait for after BlizzCon. Alpha may not be here until March or even April, but I hope it’s at least soon to get to testing.
That was my impression, too. It was the weakest expac preview I’ve ever seen because they had so little really ready to show.

They aren’t going to open the alpha until the world first race is over. Many of the people they would want streaming the content for publicity are consumed right now with the raid.
shadowlands was extremely early in development during blizzcon. If they do deliver it in 2020 (cus otherwise they can get sued) it will be at the latest possible date, like dec 31st. Dont expect alpha till May, honestly.
