When new players create their first character they won’t be exposed to Shadowlands. They go from BFA to Dragonflight. This may be the closest the team gets to admitting Shadowlands was a failure.
It gives me some solace.

It isn’t really an admission of failure. It is an admission that the core leveling experience is intended to be “down to Azeroth” with a single narrative / single continent, KISS. They kicked MoP out of the core leveling experience, they kicked out Legion, they kicked out Wrath, they kicked out BC. They kicked out the revamped Classic zones / Cata zones.
And you’re going to tell me you think that they think that BFA is a better expansion than SL? I don’t know about that buddy. Dragonflight is being designed from the ground up to eventually replace BFA and be the ONLY 10 to (max-10) leveling experience for new players.
Yes and no. I think it would have been a more difficult decision for Blizzard had SL been received really well. But ultimately, you have to admit, the story is just way far out there.
BFA sucked too. Yet it’s going to continue to be the default storyline.
Yup.
But Blizzard is already planting the seeds to throw out BFA and replace it with DF when 11.0 comes out. When 11.0 comes out, DF will become the default leveling experience, and whatever cosmic adventure comes out will be the max-10 to max leveling zone for that expansion.
It’s leveling experience was better than Shadowlands. The on rails, don’t get to pick the area you level in sucks. And they need to stop doing that.
Is that your speculation or has it been stated somewhere?
Uhh…
Have you actually leveled in BFA from 10 to 50?
Some off-handed remark from Ion implied that.
Yes. And I prefer to pick my own area to level in. On Horde, Zandalar gives a good chunk of XP. I hate all areas of the Shadowlands and unless I do Threads of Fail, I don’t get to pick the area I want. And Threads is only side quests and WQs. With that you might as well spam dungeons.
Idk if that’s true, generally all of the bad expansions have had rather good, if not some of the best leveling zones in the game, so those parts of, even bad expansions, would still be good to show off.
I would say even if Shadowlands was a great story… it would not make sense as a core leveling experience, so I agree with what others have been saying.
Though to OPs point, there isn’t much that makes sense at this point for a core leveling experience. It’s just trying to decide what sucks the least out of a bunch of bad options.
You have to do the first BFA zone first. And then if you didn’t get 20 levels in the first zone, which you probably didn’t, you have to go to the second zone. And then you can go to the third zone last.
General Discussion forum sometimes, lol.
I heard it was a new writer of sorts that forged the Shadowlands lore. If this is true, I wonder if he got fired.
I have not had to go the linear path that I had to take in Shadowlands. And I’ve leveled two characters through that. Maybe it is because I’m not a new player.
In that case, if it is that way, they need to open it up. Linear sucks. And Shadowlands was so bad they had to create many skips just for people to want to level alts through it.
They also skip TBC, Wrath, Cata, MoP, WoD, and Legion.
So I assume all of those expansions being skipped are admissions if failures?
I’m going to hazard a guess that after DF they won’t even be exposed to BfA by default.
Skipping SL isn’t any sort of “admission of failure”. At best it’s an “admission we’ve made a lot of content and we don’t want to confuse new players too much right out of the gate so they stick around enough to see the new stuff and when they have the time they can go back and discover old stuff”.
This was not the case when it was live. Now, you unlock more zones as you level. But just like Legion, BfA originally was to pick where you wish from the board.
Wouldn’t this logic also imply that everything prior to BFA was a failure as well since new players don’t see that either?
Neat.
Not sure how that relates to BFA as the default level 10-50 leveling experience for new players which is what is being discussed in this thread.
Perhaps you should go back and reread the conversation, which was about how linear questing is disliked, which is why Legion and BfA were examples of this. Either keep up with the subject or do not comment.

Bruh, I’m the first reply in this thread, why don’t you re-read what I wrote? Lol
