Render distances, total number of high-resolution textures, and probably poor LoD options for WoW.

and here is shadowland

You do know that game is four years old, yeah?

A smartphone is acceptable, if you don’t mind playing in Minecraft mode.

here minimum

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-3450 or AMD FX 8300
  • CPU SPEED: Info
  • RAM: 4GB RAM (8GB if using supported integrated graphics)
  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon RX 560 or Intel UHD 630 (45W)
  • PIXEL SHADERS: 5.0
  • VERTEX SHADERS: 5.0
  • FREE DISK SPACE: 100 GB
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 2 GB

Because not new, not optimized, etc.

Wow is now like an older Microsoft operating system, it is just new stuff crammed on top of old. So it runs WORSE with each expansion added. If they ever rebuilt the engine, from the ground up, it would require half the power to look/run twice as good.

The view distance slider, in Wow, is also junk. It doesn’t leave out enough, especially in Borealus (should not be getting 12 fps there, but 55 if I go outside far enough in Tiragarde.)

Nope.

That’s why I said render distance, number of high-resolution textures. RE3 isn’t likely to need a significant render distance due to its setting. That enables it to cut a lot of corners graphically.

WoW is also horrible at LoD scaling for distant objects. That increases the load it puts on hardware.

If those are real, they are higher than Red Dead 2 lol.

Technology progressed, and potatos made in 2006 will no longer be able to run a 2020 title. Incredible.

PS, Shadowlands specs are still potato specs. Just not 2006 potato specs.

They are also just ever so slightly more demanding than Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, rofl.

All games anymore require high requirements for best graphics experience which games anymore becoming realistic which people want WoW to look better anyways.

but don’t you think it’s too much??

Like others have pointed out, it’s a very old game engine that with expansion after expansion, is getting layered systems being put on top of it.

It’s just going to get more unmanageable until it gets to the point where Blizzard has no choice but to strip the engine down to it’s core and rebuild it from the ground up, it’s only a matter of time; as the engine is easily plateauing in what it can handle and what it asks for to run properly.

When people ask why a newer game with a much newer game engine requires less resources to run it, is usually because math equations in the code written for the engine tools over the years have become much more accurate.

We’ve also entered a engine era of photograph-assisted texture mapping; in which photographic material is used in a games environment textures; it’s less resource intensive and simulates photo-realism.

I could go on, but bottom line, World of Warcrafts engine is super outdated, it’s never been rebuilt from scratch to better accommodate newer, less-resource intensive tools, so them adding things on top of it like RTX Ray tracing just masks the cracks of a very ageing engine.

It’s high because the recommended settings are how Blizz intends for the game to be experienced.

You can make it run on a potato and look like pixel art if you really want to.

Not really which I run everything on max and no issue for me. Steady FPS, some areas like Dalaran once teleport, i lag alittle but other then that, I am totally fine with the requirement.
