Undead for PVP, but play what you LIKE imo.
Heavily disagree. You can dispel most of these as a shadow priest and with shadow protection that lock is doing so little damage to you it doesn’t even matter. I wouldn’t by any means cal a shadow a counter to warlock if anything it’s fairly even. But my point still stands if you are facing a lock you are going to need to get out of shadow form eventually
Troll has the edge imo.
Wotf/Dp is nice in pvp; but so is shadowguard/hex. All things considered I personally think they are both equal in their own rights.
The deciding factor for me in Berserk. It has a function in pvp albeit small; it is the far superior buff for all casters in raid content horde have.
Granted that’s true; most locks have MD felhunter+Soul Link and Shadow Ward.
The Dispell fights are pretty equal. Felpup can be used for either offensive or defensive dispels including the fear.
I mained a lock in vanilla and I don’t recall shadow priest ever being able to 1v1 and win without over gearing the lock or massively outplaying. Much like playing a warlock and beating a rogue pre-deathcoil.
Granted this is as SL/SB. I also remember you could DS the pet, and have a healer res them and keep both the DS buff as well as the MD+SL buffs for the vast majority of vanilla, I’m not sure if it was ever adjusted towards the end or not, because I devoted my time to raiding at later months and rarely spec’d for pvp.
Troll, period. Devouring plague will eat 1/5 - 1/8 of your mana pool for a piddly DoT/HoT that scales at 50% spell damage and is spread out over 24 sec. Alliance have paladins+priests that will negate your massive mana expenditure fairly quickly. WotF is strong yes, but you won’t be meleeing priests and that warlock has to get into 20-24 yrd range to even cast their fear. You only really have to worry about warrior fear, but that is already easily countered by tremor totem or competent teammates.
As a troll you get a really cheap (20 mana) ranged mortal strike that forces your enemy healers to burn mana no matter what they do/provide easy heavy pressure/cleanse protection. Shadow guard provides shadow damage at the same initial rate as devouring plague and scales better, provides healing from VE, procs blackout, and is much cheaper than devouring plague. Sure you can’t coat your foes in it, but if you could do that then your plagues are likely to be cleansed anyway.
Yeah shadow guard isn’t that great from when I played it proced the stun yes but comparing it to devouring plague is the wrong ability you should be comparing it to.
Touch of grave vs shadow guard, hex vs devouring plague.
Hex reduces healing enemies do and I think it also reduced physical damage they dealt don’t remember.
Devouring plague was strong in bc I don’t know about classic I could of sworn it wasn’t as powerful and very mana costly.
Can’t remember that part, but trolls have beast slaying so druids + increase damage hunter pets + increase damage.
Berserk won’t affect dots I think so trolls are probably play defensively more then undead in pvp as shadow priests.
In bc you could apply shadow word and devouring on a player and they would die sometimes they don’t when they were flying on their mounts.
Shadow guard has internal cool down on procs I believe and costs a lot of mana so lower rank you’d prob use.
Gonna wish you had sform up when that rogue opens on you.
Nah dude you save that sheet for the blind!
I don’t know. I’m just as uncertain now as I was when I made the topic. Maybe I’m overrating Shadowguard?
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but Dwarves can also use their racial, Stoneform, to get rid of your Devouring Plague, as it is a disease.
Agree with others, I will roll Troll instead of Undead due to the Blackout proc possibility.
guess i was wrong then. nice to be proven wrong about my own misconceptions though.
They changed how spell scaling worked in TBC so that spells that go over the original limit of 3.5 sec for casts and 15 sec for oTs received the full benefit from spell damage and healing. Devouring plague being a hybrid spell still suffered from the 50% scaling though.
You still have smite which is orders higher dps than Mind Flay.
Like lightning shield, it has a 3 second cooldown. The mana cost of 250 * 3 for 9 charges over 3 casts is still 235 mana cheaper for more damage and a longer duration. As a bonus, it can crit.
It’s a tool in a tool kit. If I played horde, I would personally find it more attractive than touch of weakness, but devouring plague is indeed a really nice spell. It’s just the Trolls racials are just superior as a whole in comparison for the type of play style I prefer. What do you think is more fun? As an example, I like human priest simply because I find feedback incredibly fun. The differences are marginal in most cases between the races as their racial abilities are niche. In most cases you will perform better when having fun.
What does sform have to do with blind?
you must be thinking of stone form, which is dwarf only.
Which i will not be.
Thank you all for your input. I think I’m definitely going to be rolling Male Troll Shadowpriest when classic drops. See you on the battlefield.
Thought you meant stoneform because we were talking about dwarves. And yeah why would you have shadow form down by default?
That’s what I want to know, someone was on here saying you will spend most of you’re time out of shadow form.
That was me but that’s not what I actually said. I said when you’re fighting someone who has a fear you normally will be dropping out of form and staying out until they die because your heals are 100% more important. At least as a dwarf you do because of ward
Makes sence for dwarf but not such a good idea for any other race.
I seem to recall Touch of Weakness proccing Blackout as well.
I could be wrong, but I have memories of it stunning rogues sometimes when they tried to gank me.
And don’t underestimate DP. Its a hammer. Just save it for the right moment.
If there is an ability you have to save for the perfect moment where it won’t be cleansed/blocked/bubbled/stoneformed and costs a metric ton of mana and does less damage that an ability that can’t be cleansed, does more damage, and stuns… I hardly see that as underestimating something. I think it is a very meh ability myself.
