Shadow PvP?! (HOW!?)

I just started playing Shadow PvP and I cannot do ANYTHING in arenas.

I get trained instantly, have no way to get any damage out and die as soon as dispersion is done.

How do you ramp damage and do anything at all, its insanity. Please help, I cannot do **** in arena.

Better positioning mostly. Stand places that melee have to sacrifice something to keep attacking you, namely their own healer’s positioning. Don’t LoS your own healer trying to run in circles around a pillar.

Faking kicks isn’t as important as it might seem, it can often be better to just get kicked when you aren’t really doing much then leverage the temporary kick immunity to get off a void torrent or mfi’s. Not to mention getting kicked to cast flash heal safely for the 10% Dr can also be a life saver.

In 2s not much, unless you have a good healer or a god teammate that knows how to kite for you. But it’ll also require you to know how to position urself and how to rotate defensives.

Positioning and rotating defensives definitely helps, but also get in the habit of using fade and feathers often for a sec or two of breathing room.

This macro will come in handy for automatically placing feathers under you. Really helpful to use right after fade or before void torrent for the speed boost.

/cast [@player] Angelic Feather
/stopspelltarget

To add… when ready to burst with psyfiend, be in position of the enemy healer to Silence, Stun, and Fear them

A good shadow priest really is scary and they do pump

Shadow is one of the best PvP specs in the game with a healer. You are one of the tank-iest specs in the game with void leach.

You should be flash healing and using fade to get the big defensives they give you, using flash heal, VT, and torrent to bait kicks and get precog. Once you have precog you can burst and use embrace for big healing.

You have more than just dispersion. If you’re not swapping, flash healing, fading, embracing, fearing, desperate prayering, then of course you’re going to die. If you’re doing those things when no one is attacking you with big CDs or your overlapping your healer then yeah, you’re cooked.

It’s kind of hard to give you tips as a brand new sp…hmm

First I would say, at your rating, enemy dps will kick anytime they see a cast bar. So if you’re ready to burst, bait their kick with a mass dispel. You’ll be kicked on holy, but free to cast on shadow. You’re faking with mass dispel by the way, not trying to full cast it. So if you proc a precog, that’s even better

Your burst:
Drop your pet asap and get insanity rolling. Also cast halo at the start of a match for free insanity.

Torrent > pi > dark ascension > as many devouring plagues as possible. DONT cast void blasts unless you’re free casting, but DO use them when they proc. After your torrent is over devouring plague is more important than anything else….sort of. You also want to stun then silence the healer during your burst. If you’re in range and can get a fear on them as well, that’s great

Try to build your insanity to at least 1/3 of a bar before bursting. This happens every 30 seconds. Really try to avoid using devouring plague until your burst window is back

ABC -always be casting. If you’re locked out of shadow, cast a flash heal for the 10% damage reduction. If you’re kicked on holy, cast shadows. Just always be casting. Your gcd should always be spinning. When in doubt, dispel magic, sw:pain or sw:death, just use something

Always try to have dots on all 3. Comments will say 2 targets is fine, but that’s just a bad habit to get into. Having entire team dotted up is priority. It’s a good habit to get into. You’re ENTIRE kit revolves around vampiric touch, so always be aware of who’s dotted

Don’t make the panicky mistake of using your stun / silence on melees that are training you. It’s tempting. You’re panicking. I get it. But you have to get in the habit of saving stun / silence the enemy healer. Yes, there are times you can use it elsewhere, but first train yourself to stay calm under pressure.

Lastly, I don’t feel like shadow priest is really an alt kind of spec. It’s something you main. And if you stick with it long enough, you won’t want to play anything else. As you play more, you know which questions to start asking
