Did shadow just get nerfed or was it number tuning, I can’t tell and can’t log on at the moment.
Adjusted numbers, you will notice the offset with the Aura going from -32% to a +20%.
There was a few tweaks… mainly fixing numbers.
Shadow:
- Mind Blast does more damage… 790 now vs 652…
- Mind Flay seems to be doing the same 1,222 over 4s.
- Mind Sear damage got reduced by 50% to 653 which matches 1/2 damage from Mind Flay on live retail so it’s not really a “nerf”.
- SWP damage over-time got nerfed by 50% from 1,215 over 16 seconds to 791.
- Vampiric Touch is still the same 1,325 over 21 seconds.
- New talents are available.
Weird thing is a lot of these damage nerfs didn’t carry over to Disc/Holy for Mind Sear/SWP. Holy/Disc SWP does 1,226 over 16s… Disc Mind Sear does 1,074… I have a hunch these numbers are going to drop to match Shadow in an upcoming patch.
It looks like they’re just adjusting numbers because Mind Blast was hitting for over 2k not long ago which is equivalent to like a 80-100k mind flay on retail.
What aura? Sorry if that was a stupid question. Are you talking about shadow form?
Each class has an invisible passive buff that gives like +25% bonuses or debuffs to certain spells.
Interesting
its like a number that works in the background they nerfed the spells but your aura is buffed and your gonna be like 8-10% stronger
Is that something that’s also implemented on live, how have I never heard of this lol.
its always been there
Crazy haha, okay well good to know!
Forgot to mention the new talents are available on the PTR now as well.
I was going to ask that too, I wanted to try out hungering void.
I noticed my health dropped as well. I was at I think 22.8k hp and now I’m at 19.7k w/ fort. I checked both my characters on the PTR and their HP dropped as well.
That’s wierd.
I am assuming the purpose of the “aura” is to act independently from gear scaling?
Meaning if spell x gets 100% value from stats with lower “aura” then it would scale higher with more stats you get.
But if spell x gets 50% value from stats with higher “aura”, it scales overall lower / more linear?
Otherwise, what would be the purpose of the “aura” if it is not tied to a seperate scaling / tuning tool?
Good point.
How have a played wow for, what, 15-16 years and never heard of an invisible “aura”?
So, I’m assuming every class has this?
I thought it went from -32% to 0%. Then every spell was nerfed by 32% to set it back right where we started.
My memory of this could very well be off, so please correct me if I am wrong. What I remember of auras is they were introduced as a means of making it easier for the devs to make quick tuning adjustments to specs. Rather than having to adjust the spell power modifier for each baseline spell and all of the various talents, they can instead make a change to one or two auras for a spec, and all of the spells and abilities that fall within the umbrella of that aura will be affected.
Those patch notes that would, for example, bump up the damage of arcane mages by 5% would be done by adjusting the aura value. This is different from selective tuning such as adjustments to shadow priests’ DoTs while not affecting the damage of other abilities.
Hopefully that is correct and made sense. I need more coffee to start the day.
If that is how it works.
Then I got a question for everyone.
What % of DPS would you want to be divided into shadow?
Meaning…
100% divided by the following categories
- Channeling = ?
- Hard casting = ?
- Damage over time = ?
- Instant Cast = ?
- DPS Cooldowns = ?
Lets see, this is how I would go about it…
- Channeling = 10%
- Hard casting = 35%
- Damage over time = 25%
- Instant Cast = 5%
- DPS Cooldowns = 25%
Edit:
On second Thought, This doesn’t really work.
Thinking of SW:D and because that does little and a lot of damage pending the target hp % throws this out of whack I think.
I’m tired, going to sleep now lol.
I wouldn’t bet on it. The whole point of these auras is to tune these spells differently for different specs. If you look at SW:D, for instance, the damage was reduced to be lower on disc than Shadow a few patches ago. It’s just how it goes.
