I see psychic link. But you have to first apply dots to all the mobs before you start using the spells that actually utilise that talent. And those dots have a time limit. Sure you’ve got shadow crash every 20 seconds now, but you need the mobs to first be clustered and hope they don’t move before the slow moving spell hits them.
Meanwhile other classes can just do aoe. With their actual aoe abilities. So anything you’re trying to set up with dots in order to make use of psychic link is just going to be dead before you can anyway.
Am I missing something obvious here? I don’t main a shadow priest. I was just curious how their redesign worked out after they did such an amazing job with ret paladins. “Not good” is my immediate impression after about an hour underground. Mind sear as a spender was stupid, but why remove it? Just make it a generator again instead.

They dumbed it down but it still feels pretty good. You just have to manually dot mobs while the tank is grouping them and then Shadow Crash once grouped and then you can do big AoE with your ST rotation. The biggest problem is the lack of mobility and not having a way to extend dots without Shadow Crashing again. Shadow Crash itself does very little damage now and yeah the slow moving projectile is poop.

Mind sear is now automatic if you have the idol of C’thun, it triggers if theres at least a mob of 2-3+ in combat with you. Deathspeaker is a favorite.

You like Deathspeaker? It does add some mobility but the damage is bad from my experience.

The thing with all those talents is that it is all passive. Aoe isn’t something that shadow priests get to do. It’s just something that happens for them. And that’s just garbage. No other class is so lacking in such a key area of their damage kit. So yes, in group settings when things go well and the tank is keeping them packed in tight you will do damage to groups of mobs, and the numbers might be fine. But in regular play out in the world, you don’t have anything to control a situation. You pull a bunch of mobs accidentally you don’t have the means to burst them down quickly. You’re in for a slog. Especially if it involves ranged attackers who hang outside the radius of shadow crash.

They just removed Mind Sear and buffed Psychic Link. Now you know how it feels to play an affliction warlock.
