I have said this so much. It’s in their blood! They bleed crackling magenta.
Yeeeeeeeeeees. You know I often wonder about if there are internal conflicts about the lose of culture as the Draenei went on. They had to have had really hard discussions and choices similar to the Highborne. I’d love to see more Illusionists and Arcanists become spotlight Draenei instead of priests and paladins.
This could be my bias, but I would like to think that arcane was and is the center of their culture. The Naaru and the light give them something to believe in, but it is arcane crystals and those energies that fuel much of their society. At least I’ve always thought of the power crystals as arcane power.
But I’ve been an arcane mage for years. It’s probably partly because I’m being vain and the other part is I don’t like change and I cannot stand fire or frost. Arcane just gives me that magic class fantasy.
I am 110% with you on this. Legion kind of threw all of that in our face with Archimonde and the leaders we have to beat down to approach his echo. Not to mention Archimonde being a master of the Arcane! You also don’t see much about the “Wakeners” I mean, they were the dudes that infused the Arcane Constructs!
It’s also sad how much the Shadow isn’t expressed in wow Lore. Auchenai and the rituals they would perform were so important to the culture of Draenei when they passed on. It was nice that it got some depth in WoD, but I wanted more. We got to see this again with WoD in how Eredar used to infuse worthy souls into the mechasuits…then we got to see it again in Legion.
I could actually ramble for hours about this lol. Bottom line though is that Arcane doesn’t get as much spotlight as it should in Draenei culture and it makes me sad
I vote Arcane
I’d watch a video of an Arcane Mage casting their spells for 10 minutes because they look that cool. Shadow Priests look pretty boring outside of that thing where they get like 30 shadows running out of them imo.
Don’t even get me started on Auchenai! The whole soulpriest and death priest thing gets me. Then shadow corruption and all that with Murmur. I love it.
And I agree. Arcane is special to the draenei and should be talked about more. Not the baby humans. Lol. Although, arcane does fit with the shal’dorei. But look at what they did with it. Bad elves.
For me Shadow but i mean its pre patch which will be around for a while and with the leveling changes just lvl them both tbh
I wish I could give you updoots
I consider spamming this macro on mouse wheel a fun rotation.

I’ve been playing shadow priest on beta and I love it. Despite what others say about it being the same as it has been that’s not the way I experience it at all. I have not been a great fan of shadow priest iterations since cataclysm. This version I am really enjoying.
I am not qualified to compare it to arcane mage though - I rarely play a mage and usually frost or fire if I do.
Priest has always been my main and I will again in Shadowlands.
The class looks great with the new changes but we always get nerfed in the ground when doing well.
Uhh… Didn’t they change what you do with insanity, like completely? Voidform was reworked was it not? I would say that’s a pretty big change.
I think Draenei Arcane Mages are great contenders since they’re about to have a Intellect Scaling Legendary as well as increased base intellect as a racial.
Void Elves on the other hand are full of juking potential.
Shadow wasn’t gutted, it was given a proper polish and now is in the best state of play it has been in for a long time. i have yet to see anyone say that the new Shadow is bad.
i believe Shadow has Arcane beat in all of these aspects outside of transmog, but even then since they are both clothies they can almost wear the exact same things outside of a few outliers (artifacts and specific tier sets that don’t have neutral look-a-likes)
1-Shadow
2-Theyre both pretty good but Shadow, unless you really dislike voidyness
3-I mean theyre both clothy bois but shadowform can mess your mogs up so I’ll say Arcane
4-Shadow until they nerf it
I’ve play both for a long time but have not played them in Shadowlands beta or PTR.
1.) In general - I think the priest has a more engaging rotation, the mage is powerful but the rotation is mostly 2 -3 buttons.
2.) Arcane mage - only because you can actually SEE your character (I personally hate the current graphics of a shadow priest)
3.) Arcane Mage - because you will (and others) will never see the S-Priest armor due to the thick purple mass.
4.) I have no idea
Shadow Priest imo. It also leaves the option of healing later.
- Shadow, but I like DoT management.
- Shadow if you like purple, arcane if you like pink.
- Priest. Mage has some nice sets, but stuff like the Priest Dragon Soul set is top tier.
- Hard to say with tuning and whatnot still in the air. Historically Shadow has seen much better applications in most forms of content than Arcane, but Arcane Mages always have the option to go Frost or Fire, one of which is almost always S tier, whereas Priest lives or dies on Shadows power, unless you decide to become a Healer.
I think mages are utterly boring by comparison to other casting classes.
with shadows history I will not be falling into that trap again for the dozenth time. if shadow is still strong several months into shadowlands I will switch my main. I have been playing shadow for many years. It is one of my favorite specs but I feel like Im holding the raid back with my crappy single target dps.
