Okay I don’t know if it is just me and because I am an rper but I literally dread putting talents into the new “shared” priest thing with this new expansion. To start off with 1: I chose a dps meaning I don’t care nor will I ever care to heal people while I am fighting. 2: As a rper having to take up light magic totally goes against the decision to be fully towards the void side. Anyways was curious if I am the only one who is like why the hell is my shadow priest forced to choose between useless powers or light magic. As far as numbers go don’t really care about the damage and mechanics of it all but yea figured I would post this question to see if I am the only one who hates having to choose healing powers on a Dps class.
So the fun part about priest lore and the magic is not mutually exclusive. The Balance of Light and Shadow is a teaching most priesthoods in lore utilize that you can either lean one way or another. The class starts with a leaning as a healer (As holy magic is much easier to retain and Priests have two healing specializations.).
A shadow priest understands that for every light cast, there’s a greater shadow. They recall the teachings of the Light as a tool, rather than a form of reverence. You have healing magics in the Light despite not being your forte. Much like knowing a few skills but not mastering in them.
As a void elf, your lore isn’t very well expanded as Blizzard didn’t take time to indulge on how Void Elves can channel holy magics without absolute ruin. A safe bet to take is to treat it like the undead. Undead priests can channel holy magic but endure a great deal of pain. Using that pain to fortify their will to see things through; undead priests are revered as powerful wielders of the light due to that self-sacrifice.
Void Elves can very much do the same. Using their enemy’s tools against them, so to speak. They endure a great deal of physical or mental pain using the light that tries to purify their corrupt body. But a void elf who uses the void or shadow magic are innately stronger in that regard.
I agree with Wenzli. A void elf would still be capable of using Light magics. Where I’d disagree with is the pain aspect, headcannon here is it’s would be very explosive. We’ve seen lore wise when Alleria got close to the Sunwell and it caused an explosion. The void becomes ingrained in that person and the light and void conflict, even going so far as creating Fel.
If you’re asking if you can, by all means it should be possible just not very safe, and one could say illogical to choose to use it knowing what could happen. Same concept of a Lightforged using Shadow/Void.
well honestly its more that i strictly wanted to be a dps spec without having to choose the healing talents but still I love both of your points.
IF you’re asking for a specialization build… You’re better off asking the priest forums. I’m not familiar with the mechanics as I am currently not playing to give you a strict idea.
lol no it was more of a rant and to see if I am the only one who was bothered by the fact that the only talents in the left side that are left are basically healing specs to be an off healer.
