Shadow Priest Rotation Issues and sub par runes

As the title says, want to start a discussion for the Devs to hopefully see the complaints for shadow priest right now. As it stands with adding yet another DOT that we have to maintain in our already over clunky openers which is, apply all 4 DOTs (devouring plague for everyone now if you take it) use your homonculi use your eye of the void apply your VE then burn the CDs on MB and SWD then by the time you have done all this you need to reapply VT and VP before you even get to start casting even 1 Mind Spike. And with the 6P while i like it and wish it was just a rune for us just adds another button for us eventually. All of this for us to do bottom tier damage.

My 2nd point is i feel like many of our runes are just sub par and not fun. Eye of the void does barely any damage just for us to apply a curse that has a 3 min CD and if there is any target swapping its bad, pain and suffering just saves you a GCD on your SWP and no one uses it. Then we get a ring rune now that gives us 6% hit but SP has never had hit issues since we have 10% built into our talents so the ring rune is barely even good later on VS how good it is for melee or other casters who have hit issues. This are my biggest concerns with Shadow Priest going into P4 if things on the PTR remain the same.

SP does have a clunky rotation (I wouldn’t even call it a rotation) and so many buttons to press and DoTs to maintain for minimal PvE payoff.

I do not enjoy playing it. You can never get into a good DPS cadence. It feels more like checking your DoTs in a panic between every button press (are there like ten now?) just to contribute very little to the raid.

Maybe the mana recovery from VT will be considerable enough to warrant the playstyle struggle and low damage?

P&S refreshing all dots would help. Could make it require a MB crit to trigger.

This is something i thought about to, would remove the problem of maintaining our dots and even make devouring plague more relevant since it would get refreshed as well.

with pain n suffering the rotation is pretty smooth, also I really like VT, infinite mana sustain. without using mindflayer I could cast nonstop for more than 5 minutes, with mindflayer should be infinite mana (I couldnt test for more than 10 minutes, the server was crashing a lot)

Next phase Warlock debuff catches up to Eye of the Void so you may end up not running that.

If you don’t run Eye of the Void, then you also aren’t needing to spend gcds refreshing SW:P.

Obviously not a big help if you’re missing Warlocks but :dracthyr_shrug:

SP is tough to balance. VE is iconic and brings pretty big value so I’m not sure how you can make SP damage competitive without needing to obliterate VE. VT might also be big as well considering that Shamanistic Rage / Marty mana return got nerfed.

I hear the VE arguments a lot but as it stands we dont actually replace a healer like people claim we are limited to the group we are in and in a fight with little to no AOE its a mute point. Dont get me wrong on consistent AOE damage fight is pretty big but any other occasion and its just useful at best. And honestly if it becomes an issue put a condition in one of our runes that reduces the VE heal.

I think PnS refreshing all dots would make the rotation way too bland

4 mind spike into mind blast ad eternum

a self buff VE or a 30min debuff would be very nice tho

Pretty sure most people 3-heal ST unless their heals are rat alts or dad gamers. The SP picks up some of the slack. And as far as “not good if there’s no AE damage”… what actual boss doesn’t do AE? Most real bosses in SoD have rot damage to the raid.

You’re probably right about oversimplifying the rotation. I really wish they would have just done more with Mindflay. Mindspike was so unecessary.

100% agree, something should be done with mindflay instead of a mind spike rune

You guys are getting a mindflay set bonus that makes it worth pushing from time to time.

:man_shrugging:

you’re gonna be disappointed because the rotation is pretty smooth and vampiric touch is amazing

Why is half the tier set +healing?

Why do you say half? One of the three bonuses is flash heal.

And honestly, that flash heal bonus is probably pretty good for PvP. Your set bonuses seem better than DPS mage bonuses at least. Most people got a minor utility bonus for their 2 pc. I think only Warrior got a winner for their 2-set as far as dps but I don’t recall them all.

The rotation doesn’t get oversimplified with not having to maintain all your dots, with the 6P its still a 4 button rotation. Your not adding in Mind Flay or SWD in there. 4 button with a complex opener i think is perfectly fine.

I’m definitely the odd man out here but I don’t find any difference in applying dots for damage vs hard casting? Dots you actually have to pay attention to which adds another element of rotation? Understand the too many complaint but pressing keys is pressing keys :man_shrugging:

(Unrelated to the power of the class which is a balancing issue)

I’d take flash heal over the ranged hunter bonus threat anytime xD

It’s definitely a meme bonus, lol. I wonder if there would be a fight where hunter has to kite an add or something somewhere. Otherwise this is just bizarre.

probably cuz ur, like, u know, priests :expressionless: the healing class
