Shadow priest pvp help

Hi all,

I just switched to shadow for pvp. I keep having trouble fighting against hunters and warrior. They tend to 3 shot me. Any tips? Should I get improved fort or improved inner fire?

Sounds like you are out geared by them. Clothies with bad gear vs physical damage with good gear, you gonna have a bad time. Go get your gear better. At least the pvp blue set minimum.

Gear for stamina and int, you need raw stats to survive

1st rule of defense
 Don’t get hit. Mr. Miyagi

Try using tools that go beyond your class like LIPs or engineering grenades or nets ect

Go imp. inner fire / imp vamp embrace.

Try and get your shield up before the warrior gets a chance to attack you. Attacking into shield = no rage. Spriest counters warrior pretty hard.

Hunter: Try to kill the hunter ASAP or they will drain all your mana. Kill or be killed.

Warrior: If they have a healer you are dead no matter what. If they dont have a healers just unload all your dots and pray they suck.

Nothing you can do about hunters they are a hard counter if they have any skill and Wars is a 50% - 50% gear or no gear it doesnt matter, just if they being pocketed.

  1. have over 4k hp at any cost, stamina over any other stat.
  2. have distance, make distance at any cost.
  3. hope they are not the top 5% of their class with consumables, full health.
  4. hope they have under 4k max health, burn them.
  5. have a friend, dispels are disgusting in group fights.

idk stuff like that

You can always go messiah mode and watch the warriors drown in AB. Other than that, Hunters will always give you lots of trouble, especially if they are properly specced for longer range.

I ranked a priest to 11 once, so I’m gonna throw out some ideas you might hate.

  • Buddy up with a mage or two. Very good symbiotic relationship. Everyone will say group with a warrior, but I would leave that to pallies/shaman and you stick with a mage. Your bubbles, heals, dispells will help them a lot, they are THE BEST for peals off of you whether frost spells or sheep, and you get INT buffs and water, they’ll love you as a pocket healer.
  • I know you love shadow, but reconsider disc/holy holy/disc as your mana will last longer and you’re more effective
but you do you and enjoy it
so if you want to stay shadow, you need +shadow or dmg and healing gear with stamina. You’re gonna drink a lot too
and I mean A LOT.
  • Hunter, get close to them and stay close to them, at least flay range. Don’t get juked by FD, which they will absolutely use as well as SS. Initiative means a lot in this fight. If they get range, you’re gonna get viper drained and murdered.
  • Warrior is the opposite, get far and stay far. Geared warriors are going to delete you. See bullet item 1 about grouping with a mage.
  • Positioning: you need to stay back and support your group and drink when the opportunity presents itself. The other team is going to sheep you, viper drain you, and choo choo train you with melee. Know that going in and position accordingly.
  • Dispel, dispel, dispel, dispel, dispel, dispel and mana burn when you can.

To answer your question: I did shadow as 18/0/33 with 2/2 imp fort, 2/2 imp mana burn. Mana burn is going to be more powerful than the little extra armor from imp inner fire which is going to get purged/dispelled off of you anyway.

Hey ! Will use this thread to ask some help too.

In term of 1v1 / BG i’m pretty sure that a Shadow priest troll > shadow priest UD

10% chance to stun someone who is hitting you is strong (shadowguard) + doing damage ofc + heal reduction

While SP UD disease is removed by priest/paladin/dwarf and cost so much mana with a “huge” cooldown but they have WOTF

Am i wrong ? Will it stay the same during TBC ?

Thanks !

nothing you can do against warrior with ashkandi. He just kills you after charge. Hide behind someone.

Like, warlock with SL isn’t enough to survive warrior crits unless you’re eating blueberries

You guys should be watching the cdl. Cdl.gg

Seriously.

yes. you wanted 3/3 imp inner fire, 2/2 imp fort, and you want 3/3 imp shield.
shield yourself first. Open with an inner focus+devouring plague, shadow word pain, keep some distance. the moment they get into melee range, fear them (if its a hunter pet, fear the pet, but both the hunter and pet is ideal). As they’re feared, you can either wait it out to get a little mana back with the 5 sec rule, or mind flay, depends on the situation. then hit them withh a mindblast at 3+ stacks of shadow weaving.
I’ve literally never died to a hunter. Fear the pet, hunters are very squishy. Warriors are a bit harder to deal with, but 1v1 you shouldn’t have an issue largely. Remember, distance is key. Use mindflay to keep distance.

oh, and forgot to mention, try and get 3/5 into blackout (its about as good as 5/5). those procs save your !@ss so many times, its unreal.
also, since you run out of mana really quick, I’d strongly suggest using as few mindblasts as possible. You initially want to front load your spells to take advantage of the 5 second rule, so minidblast at at least 3 stacks of shadow weaving, after that, you primarily want to be mindflaying. 1, because it scales better with spell power, and 2. because it keeps your enemy slowed. distance is your greatest ally against a melee.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem 1v1 as a spriest. you’re kind of the 1v1 king.

I cant fear warriors. They are always immune to it. And once they interrupt my shadow spells, im locked out and cant do anything.

depends if their berserker rage is on CD. Regardless, you need to just keep kiting if you can’t get them off you. you also want to spec into 2/2 improved psychic scream as well for the shorter fear CD. By the second time its up, the warrior should be running. gives you space and time for dots to ramp up and u can mindflay again

also, a fun little tidbit, if you’re in the open world, you can also mindcontrol the warrior and run him into a bunch of mobs, and let the mobs daze him as you get more distance. I’ve pulled it off a few times and its always fun to watch =)

You need to shield yourself and if possible juke them. Then freecast in their face and watch them flop. If they don’t outgear you by a large margin, you can go head to head and destroy them.

Me vs. rank 13 warrior @ rank 8

Always keep Inner Fire and Touch of Weakness up when fighting melee classes.

For Warriors, best tip is don’t blow your Psychic Scream right away. If they are using their ‘Berzerker Rage’ (orange glowy hands) they will be immune to your fear. Wait for that to wear off before you try to fear them. Also, be sure to spec Inner Focus in the Disc tree and use IF before Devouring Plague to conserve mana. Basically open with bubble, SWP, and VE and (IF)DP if you can get it off before they charge/stun you.

Fake cast your Mind Blast to see if you can bait them into using their Pummel which will interrupt and silence you. But, if they blow it on you when you’re not casting it will have no effect. So, start casting Mind Blast, and then immediately take a step backward to cancel. Chances are, he will take the bait and waste his pummel. Then, he’s yours, Fear and just spam Mind Flay until they die (only fear them when orange glowy hands fades away). Keep your bubble up and between DP and SWP/MF ticks you should outheal their damage.

For Hunters, they will most likely hit you with Viper Sting to drain your mana. If you have First Aid 300 and Revered with Argent Dawn, get and learn the Powerful Anti Venom. It will remove Viper sting and also Rogue poisons. Ignore the pet and run in close to the hunter to stay in his dead zone. Dot him up, fear, mF/MB till dead. Alternatively, dot him up and run away or LOS him. If he sends his pet after you and keeps you at max range, kill the pet. If he used Feign Death, there is a very strong chance he will lay an Ice Trap on you. In that case, he will hit you with aimed shot and maybe another viper. Sometimes you have to run away and reset the fight.

trying to juke is a waste of time, unless you’re a very skilled veteran player. by the time you bait their kick, you’ll already be gasping for health and distance.
I’d say just let them kick, play the kite game, heal if necessary and let the dots do the work. 2/2 improved psychic scream and fear on CD, power word shield on CD. its not rocket science.
should be spec’d 5/5 darkness, throw an inner focus devouring plague. watching them die gg

Of course you can, just l2p.
