With the changes, do we expect Shadow Priest to be an effective open world class? I appreciate any class CAN succeed open world, but as a causal gamer I spend a lot of time there and I don’t want to play a spec with sub par performance open world.
I expect the damage out of void form will help a lot. But will the lack of survivability hold it back?
I am between Priest, Druid, and Paladin for my main. How do you think Shadow will stack up against Ret and Feral as a fun and effective open world class?
I think it will be just as effective as ret or feral. It has a lot of passive self-healing now, purely from doing its regular damage rotation. This, plus cooldowns like vampiric embrace, dispersion, and just the regular shields and shadowmends will take care of you just fine. Shadow has good CC too to help you get out of an OH SH** moment. It’s certainly not a blood dk or a bm hunter, but it’s plenty powerful.
It will almost certainly be a better pvp class than either of those two, if you like to play with warmode on.

There isn’t a huge lack of survivability. The self healing from Devouring Plague is very strong.
Shadow will do well in world content. Is it fun compared to ret and feral? I couldn’t tell you.

I found it fun. I felt guilty running past a poor horde pally who was on like 15% health and swd him. Prob didn’t even know how he died. But I found the ability to front load 3 dots with one button really satisfying.

Thanks for the replies. I am planning on leveling a Priest from level 1 during the prepatch. Looking forward to it, and really hoping to find a fit.
Effective as ret and feral?
ouch!
Don’t see why not. Care to elaborate?
According to everyone, those specs suck. I will still play feral the same as I did in BFA.
I don’t think any of them are going to suck for world content. People were complaining about shadow in world content while leveling during BfA…meanwhile I was pulling four or five mobs at once and doing just fine. Same with my ele shaman. It’s not as braindead as leveling a hunter, but plenty doable. People just don’t want to learn how to use all of their class tools. Feral should be good too.
Survivability and burst dps looks to go up significantly in SL, but things like stealth, aggro drops, hard cc, snares, and speed boosts mean a lot in the open world. Shadow got none of those. So while we will be a lot better at face tanking with DP, that’s still our only move. So if you are ok going slow and having to kill everything you ever aggro, Shadow will be fine.
And I call BS on “I pulled 5 or 6 and never had an issue”. Give me a break.

Wdym. 5 mobs is a joke for shadow lol. Embrace and ur full hp. Or disperse if ur low. Thats really not hard to deal with

It is now. We are talking about leveling. Knock your ilvl down to 300 or so, take off all your azerite, cloak, and essences, then try a 6 mob pull. Let me know how it goes.

I’ve already leveled to 60 on beta pre Nd post xp buff. Its fine. We have more than enough survival to pull groups. And kill elites.
Wasn’t talking about SL either.

Ok leveling now is still a joke. I’ve done every time of leveling for my collection of priesrs. Unless ur gonna say oh my meant pet battling now.
If you bothered to read the post I was responding to, I was referring to the claim that you could basically pull indiscriminately leveling in bfa without issue. I never said it was hard. I said you couldn’t pull 5 or 6 mobs in crap gear and without a worry. And the thread is about open world play, which is more than just killing things. Hell even if feral does crap damage, stealth, speed, and instant mounting make druid a great open world class. Shadow has… levitate?

All the time. Leveling was a joke.
Oh wow we dont have instant mount or stealth. We still can literally level in any xone by taking body and soul. And spammig swp as we pull then dark void sear erupt. And its dead. U can keep retorting all u want. Spriest is fine leveling. Even with crap gear. I’ve leveled up 3 from 20 and 2 in beta to 60. Even bfa we are fine. And its not a claim. Anyone who can press half their buttons can do kuch larger than 5 mobs in pulls in bfa areas
OP, of your choices I would personally recommend Druid for open world everyday gameplay. You have a choice of every role (tank, healer, ranged dps, melee dps) and druid has a LOT of class perks. Off the top of my head, extra hearth, stealth, instant mounts, aquatic form, interacting with objects in travel form, cc, snares, and night elves have aggro drop. And near constant dev attention. Its hard to beat.
Feral is one of the most “ignored, forgotten” specs out there. Ask the Druid forums if you don’t believe me.
