Shadow Priest on PTR 11.2 – Loving the rework, but visuals need work

I’ve been testing Shadow Priest on the PTR and while the gameplay updates are great—Void Torrent feels smooth, Void Volley adds more impact—I think the visuals are still lacking.

1)Void Volley looks like the same old Void Eruption missiles, with no new animations or flair.
2) Idol of N’Zoth gives no clear visual or audio cue when you reach 50 stacks or trigger the N’Zoth vision—it’s underwhelming considering the power behind it.
2)Same with Idol of Y’Shaarj: it activates, but there’s no visual effect, no aura, no feedback to make it feel impactful.

Shadow has some of the best fantasy in the game, but these missing visuals make it feel flat. Please consider enhancing these effects—it would go a long way to making the spec feel as powerful as it plays. I understand this is still PTR and not final, but I really hope Blizzard adds more visual polish to match the awesome direction this rework is taking.

I agree. Especially for PvP, being able to see when these abilities/procs activate will be an important part of combat fluency.

It’s weird because there are so many visuals already in the game that could be given to shadow to spice up its visual appeal

Pretty much anything in Nyalotha could be a shadow spell

We’ve explored the Black Empire, N’Zoth’s domains, and countless manifestations of Void magic — why aren’t any of those incredible visuals applied to Shadow Priest spells?

Spells like Shadow Form, Devouring Plague, Dark Ascension and many more could easily be reimagined using textures and effects from Nyalotha or Horrific Visions. The aesthetic is already there in the game — eerie tendrils, eyes, glyphs, void wisps — yet Shadow still feels like “purple smoke + dots.” With the 11.2 rework on the horizon, this would be the perfect time to give the spec a long-overdue visual identity update.

It’s comical at this point that there is multiple examples of visual effects that fit the Shadow Priest theme and could be incorporated easily while at the same time we also have OG Shadowform that WAS a Shadow Priest visual and has been lost and forgotten for multiple expansions never to be made into a glyph or barber shop option.

I swear the wow devs have something against Priests and especially Shadow.

I agree on the fact that there is really a ton of spells for a possible shadow priest core update.
I really do hope and belive that 11.2 is just something that makes us through the final patch of the expansion. And that a full rework is planned during midnight that really gives shadow a core identity again. With a ton of visual updates and old shadowform in a glyph or something

Guys, please explain why they can’t add a symbol for the shadow form to hide the visual effect?
And why the shadow form itself can’t just be a passive buff instead of a separate spell with a global cooldown on the ability bar?

The new void volley could totally use a better vfx.
It looks kinda weak and too similar with void eruption

I would enjoy if they used the new cosmic void visuals. Velf npcs in Telogrus have a void blast but it’s way cooler looking than the evil shadow taffy we have. The purple used for other abilities is just…not good anymore either I think among classes, Spriests are still using the same animations they have for many years…especially among their fellow offensive casters theirs are the most dated.

What!? You dont love rezzing and having it randomly turn off so you have to macro it to mindblast or vt?

It would be kind of fun to randomly summon void eyes that shoot lasers at targets. Idk why that sounds so cool to me but it does
