Priest
- Mind Spike damage increased by 10%.
- Void Plague damage increased by 10%.
- Shadow Word: Death base damage before modifiers decreased by 40% and spellpower coefficient adusted to 42.9% (was 64.3%).
- Developers’ notes: Overall, this should result in a 33-40% damage reduction on Shadow Word: Death, depending on the amount of spellpower the priest has. Shadow Word: Death has been doing a larger percentage of overall priest damage than intended, and we feel like this could begin to put additional pressure on healers in PvE, as spellpower gear improves and the damage that priests inflict on themselves continues to scale upwards. It could also prove to be increasingly oppressive in PvP, as it’s an instant attack that can be used on the move, from range, with very little counterplay.
Thoughts on this change?
Did they slap Priest too hard or not hard enough?

Doesn’t look like it’s an overall dps decrease, or not much of one. Looks like it’s mainly just taking away from SWD and putting more of their damage into mind spike/void plague
SWD still gonna hit incredibly hard for an instant cast spell. So probably not enough of a nerf, but still a nerf nonetheless which is a good thing

Seems like the intention was to keep spriests at around the same power level in pve but slightly missed, if spriests used void plague on ST it would be closer, but they do not, they’ll probably lose around 20 dps in PvE as a result. I would have buffed Mind Spike more and not void plague at all, mostly because void plague already does decent damage in pvp to people who can’t remove it or heal themselves and i wouldn’t want to add to it and mind spike is used in all pve builds and barely gets casted in pvp.
The sw:d nerf makes sense from a pvp perspective, I don’t think the reflect would matter in pve (or if it did, it would already have been at its most annoying for your own healers in the early weeks), I think pvp will feel a lot better now there aren’t any instant cast 36 yards spells that are huge nukes like starsurge/death

I’m happy with the nerf. I play discipline priest so the buffs help me out a lot and not exploding from SWD will let me actually heal for a change. Now if we can get rogues toned down a bit as well as melee hunters, then PvP would be quite nice.

Void plague was already obscenely powerful, now each tick will do the same damage as a chimaera shot.
It wasn’t possible to further move the dmg into casted spells?
overall its a -40 dps loss, id take a flat out 50% nerf to swd no vp buff but just put mind spike into the twisted faith rune
The only issue is that there is nothing else to buff besides Mind Spike

void plague ticks, with the same spell power, almost 3x as hard as Corruption, currently with Siphon Life, Curse of Agony, and Corruption, I can spend 3 globals to STILL do less damage over time than a single void plague. Then they apply shadow word pain and affliction is just a meme. This is barely a nerf in pvp and their overall pvp dmg will likely be higher after this

I feel like a 33-40% nerf on SW:D and a 10% VP buff will not increase their overall PvP DPS
Being able to insta hit someone for 1k is pretty hard compared VP
I would take a bigger buff to mind spike over a buff to void plague honestly. Void plague is already insane as it is especially against a class with no sustain.
Or maybe make the dot fall off once the priest is dead or 60y away. Even lvl 35 food isn’t good enough.

I am in favour of these nerfs, the only issue I see is there is gonna be a lot of yelling and screaming for VP nerfs, but there isn’t anything else for them to buff besides SW:D or homunculi.
I feel like a Mind Spike buff isn’t good either because people will get angry at getting machine gunned down from 42 yards away, and follow up with a guaranteed MB crit.
IMO, they shouldn’t have added MS and just made the belt rune buff Mind Flay. Bake the crit chance into casts of Mind Flay and increase the damage to match that of Mind Spike. I feel like this would be balanced because Mind Flay only has a 20-yard range so you have to get pretty close to unleash it, compared to unleashing from 42 yards away and if they step any closer getting blown away by an MB crit from max range.
This would also make Twisted Faith used depending on the situation.
They need to buff mind spike more to make up for the nerf in PvE. There is also much more counterplay to someone hard casting mind spike on you in PvP.
Mind Spike buff should be like 20-25% increased damage and make MS and MB both get 70% knockback protection.
