Shadow Priest Needs Another Rework

I quit shadow because of the rework. It’s dumbed down a lot from what it was and now it’s a caster turret turd. Mind flay is the reason I started playing shadow. VF is the worst mechanic in the game imo.

I said it above , the only way to make everyone happy is to split the void and shadow aspects into 2 separate specs. That way everyone who like legion void form can have it and everyone who wants to play a shadow priest can play one but this whole amalgamation they have now is not fun for a lot of us.

I do not disagree with you. There’s room for both with the overall design of the talent trees. Why going left for one playstyle (mind spike) or right for the other (mind flay) is not a thing is beyond me. I like DA/VE as a choice node. Pick the style you like, and not be forced into what you don’t…that feels like good design.

The talent trees should be allowing us to customize our playstyle experience a bit more than “get stuck with one style that mathematically crushes all other options” so pick what feels enjoyable to play at your own risk.

just give me my dps back.

also, RIP void form.

Hmmmm so over the course of the patch Psychic Link, Dot’s, capstones have been nerfed, now Surge is being gutted.

RIP spec.

who sent you here? who do you work for?

I main Shadow and have opinions on the spec. I’m sorry I guess?

EDIT: Not sure why this got marked as a response to Zelebra when I clicked on Rozuul.

Need to split shadow up into 2 specs, actual shadow priest (combo of cata/mop/wod designs) and void priest (combo of legion and BFA design). Then everyone will be happy, more or less.

The only reason for this is Blizzard removing voidform drain mechanic without having a clear vision of what to do without it.

It’s obvious they have no solid idea of where to take shadow, that’s why we’re such a patchwork spec right now

The devs made this mess, they should fix it.

It’s silly to act as though a multi billion dollar company can’t manage to balance a spec that clearly needs it without sacrificing other specs. They have the resources to do both

If they wanted to give other specs dev time, then the dev time they spend on Shadow shouldn’t be so half-assed that they keep incurring debt and need to revisit.

I don’t regret dropping my priest this expansion. It’s something to dabble with on occasion, but Shadow feedback has largely been ignored. I’m starting to wonder if they even read the Alpha/Beta forums.

Making largely impactful changes to the class and specs because dungeon and raid design is flawed shouldn’t be damaging to the players as a whole. If people are abusing it because it’s suddenly synergizing well due to content design, such as NEEDING mass dispels… why not change the content?

So much has been gutted from Priest. So many people give such valuable feedback and it’s once again become an afterthought.

that was quite the read lol but not the first time i’ve seen a post like this but i mean that’s publik just speaking his 2 cents on spriest
i’ve never played a shadow priest before this very season and that is due to how the spec has been treated since legion (when i first came back to wow after cata was boring so like 2 expansion break or something)
back then it was surrender to madness that made them highly fun, strong and in the crosshairs of blizzard. literally ever since that moment they have continuosly been harrassed by the balance team because the spec has always had a unique damage profile (even different from other dot classes) for as long as i can remember since legion priest is always being reworked, redesigned or just straight nerfed because of it’s unique damage profile and now in current time because of it’s unique utility. i’ve dealth with the nerfs this season because it’s clear that blizzard is charging spriest a utility tax that it’s paying for in damage. but what now, blizzard is directly attacking it’s utility, which they said they only respected Game 1, which is theirs, and Gamer 2ers can deal with it. well blizz, where are we now? and how did we get here?

I quit shadow because the rework fundamentally did not address really basic issues like the utility nodes at the start being dps losses and the refusal to remove or make usable chronically dead nodes like unfurling darkness. I was extra insulted by the removal of mind sear since I really liked the gameplay loop for it with applying dots and hasting and maintaining them with mind sear that existed in 10.0. Added with the removal of instant mind spike procs shadow looked significantly less fun to me despite how meta it was about to be.

When they inevitably rework shadow again next expansion I hope they focus on the things that truly define shadow priests: instant cast movement(stutter stepping), dots, and high apm.

PVP staple talent, all spriest use it in that area. Just because you don’t see a use for something doesn’t mean that there isn’t one brother.

Psychic Link isn’t the problem with AoE damage and never has been. Linear scaling on tormented spirits is the problem with AoE damage. Fix obviously broken things like that and shadow will stop scaling out of control as you add targets. Then it can do meaningful single-target damage and have good burst AoE/normal AoE through Psychic Link.

With the utmost respect, it’s useless in PvE and therefore does not deserve the slot it has.

PvP talents should be exactly that, not in the tree cluttering up useful design space.

no no no.
the horrible pvp talent system is already bad enough. Don’t add more necessary choices to that thing, further hurting the class for pvp.

The class just needs to be redesigned better period.

this spec alone has gotten reworked every expansion since its existence because of the lack of care and attention given. DF has done like 2 reworks, and its still bad.

Redesign the priest.
Make all the 3 spec connect in the class tree.
make each spec have its own identity with a simplified rotation that feels Strong, impactful, and fun to use.

you don’t need 100 spells to make the class feel good.
a few, well-done spell choices are more than enough if the class is designed structurally well.

If they keep half baking these reworks for priests, then it will never get anywhere. Stop trying to satisfy everyone’s nostalgia and use the past to make something new and better. Not the same Crap.

I wish they would just do a WOW 2 so we can actually redesign classes better for once, like dam.

I mean, just toss another pvp talent slot in, why not.

if people still want a separate pvp tree.

I would prefer if it was its own little mini tree page under the category “pvp”

or at the very least, be like legion’s pvp page.

3 choices just not enough, half what legion used to be and it feels awful.

Would like passives, not just only new spells too.

Pvp should also have its own unique tier sets too.

trust me… as a priest you def want more mobility… if you haven’t encounter “healerstealer” in BG’s yet… just you wait…
and if you do… dont fight it… just let it happen… go make a sandwich or take a shower, because you wont be playing that game.

Remove mass dispel, power infusion, and mind soothe.

Until then shadow priest will remain a lackluster spec that is held back by ridiculously irreplaceable utility.

You cant have it all
