I’m having a hard time to interpretate shadow priest’s mastery since rework.
It says: Your damage is increased by 4.0% for each of Shadow Word: Pain, Vampiric Touch and Devouring Plague on the target. During Voidform, all targets receive the maximum effect.
The big issues for me are “all targets” and “maximum effect”
All targets: which ones?
Maximum effect: which one?
Ok, lets get some situations:
S1 - I do have a pack of 5 adds. My target has VP, SWP and DP. The rest doesnt have any dot. If I void eruption, how my mastery will work?
S2 - I do have a pack of 5 adds. My target has VP, SWP and DP. The rest only have SWP dots. If I void eruption, will they all get the VP and DP damage from my main target?
S3 - I do have a pack of 5 adds. My target has VP, SWP and DP. The rest only have VP and SWP dots. If I void eruption, will they all get the DP damage from my main target?
And if for all the situations above the answer is no, aka all adds must have VP, SWP and DP dots, what the heck is this maximum effect beneffit???
Thanks in advance for those who can help me interpretate this. Kinda big deal problem for me having such a vague and generic status description.
Each of your 3 dots increases the damage that target takes by x%. In voidform every target you attack behaves as if it has 3 dots on it for the sake of mastery damage.
Your scenarios are all the same. After you erupt, the damage bonus will behave as if the target has 3 dots, even if it doesn’t.
It means that, while in VF, any damage you deal to any target is increased as if you had all 3 DoTs on them, regardless of whether or not you do.
You’ll deal the same damage to your primary target, but an extra 12% (with no mastery) to every other target.
Damage from DoTs on your primary target won’t be replicated over to secondary targets or anything. ‘Maximum effect’ just refers to the effect of your mastery, i.e. they take increased damage per each DoT on them from damage you actually deal to them.
Something is really weird with my char tho. Cuz if i dot SWP in 3 dummies, and void eruption my target with all dots etc, i got an dps output that seems to count only VT and DP of a single dummie.
If i do the same roation but applying SWP and VT on the 3 dummies, my dps output goes WAAAAY higher, specially with VT dot.
Mastery doesn’t apply dots / deal the damage of the dots in voidform. It just adds the damage bonus you would get through mastery if those dots were active.
You put a dot on a target. Theyre now taking X% more damage.
You put 2 on a target. They take 2X%
You put 3 dots up (VT SWP DP) they take 3X%
While you are in voidform, NO MATTER HOW MANY DOTS YOU HAVE UP ON ANY TARGETS, they all take 3X% increased damage.
Ok I got it and i really appreciate your effort to help me XD
But now comes the real problem, if our damage is mainly based on dots, to proc the mastery output to make some aoe we basically have to dot every target, and it makes our mastery kinda redundant. I can only see the extra damage buffing DP… it still a weird concept for me.
It buffs all your damage on that target. For me if a target has all 3 dots on them they’re taking 30% more damage from all my spells.
It’s less good in aoe because you have less dots up, sure, but that’s where voidform comes in. Because of mastery, voidform is a massive aoe damage cooldown.
If I’m understanding you correctly, you’re saying that in the first scenario you were using SWP on 3 targets but Vamp Touch on only 1 target, but in the second scenario you were using Vamp Touch on all the targets?
The biggest damage difference there, aside from the Vamp Touch damage itself, is going to be Shadowy Apparitions. Shadowy Apparitions are the shadowy ghosts that fly off of you towards your target while you cast other things (Mind Blast, DP, Void Bolt). Every time you cast one of those 3 spells, an apparition goes off at every target you have Vamp Touch on.
Speaking of the Shadowy Apparitions, you mentioned the Psychic Link talent earlier; it’s currently just a worse passive effect than the Auspicious Spirits talent in the same tier. Both talents are a passive damage boost based off of having your Vamp Touch on the target, but with AS you still get a benefit in single target, whereas the Psychic Link talent literally does nothing in single target for you. Most of the time even in constant spread AOE situations, AS still provides more of a benefit to your damage than Psychic Link, and in stacked AOE, there’s no beating Shadowcrash. PL is just kind-of an undertuned bad talent right now.
