Hello everyone,
Thanks to a lengthy conversation with Aneurysm in my last thread I have been able to come up with an idea for a different kind of gameplay that we currently have, which would lean heavily on DoT`s and DoT application and it would not require too much to acomplish that.
Now before we delve into the actual build there are some changes that need to take place:
- Shadow crash is removed and its place is taken by Void Eruption ( Aneurysms idea that would make Void Eruption a AoE spender without cd and with insanity cost instead, no more void form )
This would provide some separation in the current build from ST and AoE situations, spicing up gameplay a bit.
- Lets take Aneurysm`s idea of reintroducing Cascade but as the primary dot spreader not dot applier.
The difference is you have to manually dot main target 1st which accomplishes having to manually dot every so often.
The actual Cascade talent would have to be put somewhere in the Priest tree, with additional talent as a choice node with Misery that would change Cascades functionality to become the dot spreader:
- Cascade of shadows : Cascade`s damage and and cooldown is reduced and it now spreads vampiric touch and shadow word:pain from your target up to 12 targets ( 10s CD )
Now what this does is as follows:
1st of all it gives a all round solution for dot spread no matter what situation be it long fight, short fight doesnt matter since cd is so short, it still requires you to manually dot once every 15s on main target which is what blizz wants us to do anyway.
- Mind Games CD changed from 45s to 30s as to line up with Dark Ascension better and Manipulation functionality changed to something like this : Mind games increases your spells critical damage by 10/20%.
Above change is to make Mind Games more meaningful rather then being almost no different then Mind Blast.
- New talent as a choice node with Dark Ascension since Void Eruption takes place of Shadow Crash, new talent: Dark Ascension now increases your periodic shadow damage dealt by 25% for 20s
This change is to enable an option for a CD that will be used with the new build.
Now having all of the above in mind lets get into it.
New Build , Talents and Gameplay
Now as I mentioned in the beginning this build will for the most part focus on DoT`s and DoT management, in order to achieve that lets repurpose some of the unnecessary talents and introduce a new talent:
- Mental Decay would now become a choice node with Psychic Link and have a new functionality : Vampiric Touch and Shadow Word:Pain deals damage 100% faster but the duration is reduced by 50%
What this change tries to achieve is shift the game play and damage profile to be more about DoT`s and DoT management.
- Now since there is space in a place where Mental Decay used to be I would put a new talent here: Aneurysm’s Disingenuity ( name is still a work in progress
) Upon application Vampiric Touch and Shadow Word:Pain instantly deals 10-20% of its total damage ( 8-10s cd unique per target )
Since the aim of the build is to be applying DoT`s more often there has to be some damage component to it while doing it, CD prevents it being spammed non stop on 1 target but is unique per target.
- Screams of the Void changed functionality: Devouring Plague or Void Eruption causes your Shadow Word:Pain and Vampiric Touch to deal increased damage by 40/80 % for 3s ( % value might have to be adjusted )
Now the idea here is for us to dot up as many targets as we can and with our finishers increase the DoT`s damage giving some interaction.
- Maddening Touch new functionality: Vampiric Touch has a chance to generate 1/2 insanity and reset or proc Unfurling Darkness ( hard to tell if the proc wouldnt be too op thats why I included reset as an option )
Idea here is simple with the increased tick rate of dots VT would be generating insanity and allowing for a quicker DoT application between targets through Unfurling Darkness cd reset or outright proc of it, giving some more interaction between the talents and spicing up gameplay a bit.
- Idol of Yogg` Saron changed to have a 2m CD upon conjuring 25 shadowy apparitions
cooldown is reset.
Now this is quite simple CD makes it so you can use it whenever you want to, giving us control over the ability rather then having it proc when the pull is over wasting the potential of this ability.
- Malediction changed: instead of reducing CD on Void Torrent Malediction causes Void Torrent to proc Screams of The Void ( increased VT and SW:P damage for 3s )
Another way of having some more synergy and interaction between the spells in the toolkit.
This is as far as I have gone for now, there are some more ideas starting to bubble on how to improve upon that to make it more fun and viable.
I would love to see some feedback on it but to summarize:

the old build would lean more on psychic link, bender and c`thun with some slight changes as to dot spread and new AoE insanity spender being Void Eruption

the new build would lean on new Mental Decay talent ( dots ticking faster ) N` Zoth and Yogg Saron talents alongside Unfurling Darkness, Maddening Touch, Screams of The Void and Malediction, it would be mostly applying dots in multi target scenario with mind flay as a filler with new AoE spender and Void Torrent as a boost to DoTs damage.
