Shadow priest hit cap?

What’s the shadow priest cap, is it 5 or 6? with the talents adding on to it? I’m confused now:)

You want 16% total. 10 of it comes from the talent Shadow Focus, leaving you to want 6% from gear.

The confusion is probably because Hit cap for a caster isnt possible. The best in vanilla you could get was 1% chance to miss (16% hit). Someone likely took that and assumed it meant that the hit was 1% lower than other casters.

I am pretty sure the 1% miss chance only applies to pvp. You can cap against npcs

you cant fully cap on pve or pvp, what you can do is miss only 1% of your casts.

to achieve that you have to reach 16% hit chance to miss only 1% of your casts on bosses (level 63)

for pvp the hit cap is 3% because you are against a lvl 60 player (same level as you). if you have 3% hit chance you will only miss 1% of your casts

not possible to cap, the first 1% is always has a chance to miss no mater what.

The question you are asking has many factors and it would take took long to answer here. join the Priest discord and ask for advice.

yeah spells have to be able to miss, but meele can be fully defended against you could have 100% parry or block or w/e but 100% spell hit = 1% chance to miss.

“Cap” means the most you can get. 16% is the cap. “Hit cap” does not mean “never resist” when it comes it spells.

5/5 Shadow Focus + 6% = 16% hit cap. You’ll always miss 1% though, nothing can be done about this, even if you have 17% hit.

As others have mentioned you can only ever reach 99% spell hit so you want enough hit to reach that number not 100%.

Spell hit chance for equal level mob = 4%
For each level of difference from -3 to +2, you gain/lose 1% of hit for each level difference. Starting at +3 for each additional level the miss chance goes up by 11%
So the spell miss chance would be
-4 = 1%
-3 = 1%
-2 = 2%
-1 = 3%
0 = 4%
+1 = 5%
+2 = 6%
+3 = 17%
+4 = 28%

So when people say the spell hit cap is 16% it is because 16% spell hit brings you up to 99% hit against a boss level mob.

It does not matter where the hit comes from gear or talents only what the total number is.

Also it does not matter what class you are… warriors have the same miss chance on taunt.
Oh and if you are leveling a caster as long as you are fighting mobs +2 or lower you only need 5% hit to cap and extra hit from talents is wasted.
