Shadow Mage Tower

Does anyone have any advice for this? I’m banging my head against a wall… I’m doing pretty much exactly what this guy is doing in this video but he kills things way way faster than I do and I don’t know why… He kills the hands in seconds…my character doesn’t do that much DPS to them.

I’m at a loss.

For starters I used all pvp gear and never switched off my stun trinket nor did i use outside buffs.

I just watched the video you posted for reference (I didn’t use void tenderil cause the spawn rate seems non-existent when I actually need it) and he killed everything much faster than I did (as mentioned I had pvp gear). What I had to do was really control the adds if I missed them with shadow crash I would DoT as many as I could before continuing on with big burst through psychic link.

In-between phases I would run Karam as far away from the middle as possible before he would stop and be shielded. I would then run back to the other side of the platform creating as much distance between us as possible. This allowed more time to DoT adds in between him reactivating and waddling back to me. But never forget - Karam is your priority after the adds are have DoT’s (sometimes Id skip DoTs on 1-3 adds just to keep the pace going).

The hands - some died quickly others i had to use dispersion to reduce the incoming damage before finishing them off. I have “/cancelaura dispersion” on mind spike/mind flay so I could get back in the fight the moment after the hand cast its AoE… use Silence right away on the hands, if the silence is down use dispersion right before the hand casts.

The toughest part for me was not getting tunnel vision and missing the rune spawn. After about 10 tries I finally programmed my eyes to look past the adds.

Save your Fear for turning away mobs while standing in the summoning runes.

I wouldn’t focus big dmg on Raest until after Karam is dead. When its just Raest at the end is just a nice slow easy kill … easier than phase 1 since your mind should be 1/4 trained to the fight by this point.

  1. Burn Karam first
  2. Take out small Adds (DoTs and Psychic Link)
  3. Try to make extra space between you and Karam between phases
  4. Silence the hands right away
  5. Talent the -15 sec CD reduction for silence
  6. Use dispersion if silence is down (but first get in as many attacks as you can)
  7. Fear mobs near you while standing in summoning rune
  8. Make sure to keep heavy pressure on Karem - he is the real threat)

If you keep dying pay extra close attention to the details in your death and maybe someone will have more tips. Details like: “the hands dont die fast… I used my silence, my dispersion was still on CD (shouldnt happen) I tried to cycle through these but I keep…”

Hope that helps!

You got this!

Kill Karam

Take Idol of Cthun and channel until a tendril procs, that single tendril is going to murder nuke anything it touches (it has base damage that is rather high and will nuke anything it touches).

Take the reduced silence, It’s much better than the stun. Kite the mobs towards the back of the room as best you can, the Ruin you need to soak will pretty much always spawn infront of the boss near the start, this way you can run around them and have time to soak the ruin. ONLY use Shadow Crash on the adds, take psychic link to passively kill them so you arent getting flooded. Once Karam is dead you will be taking more damage, utilize Fades DR as well as Flash of Lights DR inbetween kiting, it will save you. Keep shadowcrash on the adds to help heal you and ONLY use VE during the final fight…Trust me it saves you. Dispersion when you need to. Otherwise, continue kiting mobs to the back of the room (Not all the way) and run around them to soak the ruin when it comes up and you will be fine. Took me 15+ Tries to learn the patterns and CD usage.

So i completed this yesterday and killed Raest first because he kept chunking me to death when i focused on Karam. It also ended and completed the fight and Karam despawned you don’t even have to kill him.

I used the short silence cd, root tendril talent and short fear/fear in place talent for utility and cthun and yog talent path with mind flay insanity. I wore pvp gear too.

I made sure to keep Karam cc so i could focus on interupting and killing the hands and getting to the ritual circle thing in time and burned Raest down.

Good luck to you.

Tips in here are very helpful, still completely hate this.

Still an absolutely vile experience.

You could always do Discipline mage tower, it’s basically cheesed and free with mindbender + fade eating every other fel cast. It also one of the easiest mage towers in general.

It’s been awhile…did you manage to down it and get that sweet mog?

Not yet. I did like 5 pulls, got frustrated and moved on.

I’ll revisit it using the tips given here as a disc priest most likely.

I will say the mage tower made me realize I vastly overestimated my abilities in this game. I’ve always been one of the best players in my circle yet this seemed impossible to me while other people said the mage tower was super easy.

SPriest mage tower took me over 16 tries, and i had done it and all the priest mage towers back in legion. we are missing a lot of the things that made it easier back then, like the legendaries and such. so dont get too down, i know you can do it!

We’ve also gained so much that specifically helps with it compared to Shadowlands.

Angelic Feather
Fear on a 30s CD
Void Tendrils (Helps a bit)
30s CD Void Torrent for hands
C’Thun for a slow while not channelling mind flay / just good damage because of broken scaling

Would you say mage tower is easier with disc or shadow with C’thun scaling?

I’d say shadow is the easier one of the three but that’s also because I only really play Shadow. If you’re around and have a discord I can watch over your shoulder and give you some pointers / try to get you the transmog.

I wouldn’t worry about it - what’s weird about mage tower is it forces you to stretch muscles you normally wouldn’t have to. More than anything that’s what makes it hard for people, I think.

Disc is by far the easiest IMO, the biggest mechanic it has is rotating pain supp and psychic scream not die to what’s essentially a tankbuster, and it’s still a battle of attrition because it’s a long fight no matter what you do since both need to die near the same time or they’ll start oneshotting you.

But this is pretty much the standard across all specs from what I’ve done of it. The fights get a lot easier if you’re using every bit of utility your spec has - but in like 95% of WoW’s content you never even need to touch half the buttons you end up using there.

Couple of things that helped me clear it a month ago:

Trait for the 30 second silence. It helps with the hands as well as Final Phase, as Raests damage is scaling.

I ran N’zoth. The 30 second VTs really help burn things quickly. Cast Vampiric Touch and VT = dead hand.

Dispersion helps you take a few hits from enemy mobs while soaking the thing to prevent the Old God thing from arriving that kills you.

Psychic Scream on a 30 second cooldown also helps you soak, scares off enemies.

Also agreed 100% with others - Burn Karem down before worrying about Raest.

That is super generous of you. I’ll try and contact you on discord if I can’t seem to make headway and still want the mog.

Everyone has been very helpful.

/cheers.

I got the last guy down on the shadow challenge to about 30% and the disc challenge escapes me. Honestly, I don’t care to get the t-mog enough to bang my head against this. Thanks for the help though.

I prob did about 40 tries on shadow and around 10 on disc.

Offer always stands, good luck in whatever you endeavour to do next.

Thank you kindly.
