I’ve looked over WoWhead and IcyVeins guides a bunch of times and have watched a bunch of Youtube vids, feel like I’m doing everything I’m supposed to, but I’m still falling noticeably behind in Overall DPS by the end of the dungeon, against the likes of MM hunter, Ret pally, assass rogue, even Demo lock…
The problem seems to only be AoE, which is the main focus in keys. I actually perform really well in raids, especially single target fights. But in keys or any cleave fights, any time I don’t have Halo available, I get left in the dust, and it severely hurts my Overall dmg.
What’s everybody else’s experience in M+? Is Shadow just outright bad in keys right now, or is it a possible l2play issue?

I know everyone says to go Archon, but I found by switching to Voidweaver it helped with my consistent aoe dps significantly. In part because it’s up every 30 seconds vs every minute. I would not be surprised if the buff to dots helps with the aoe as well.
Give it a shot. You may be pleasantly surprised. I know I was.
Voidweaver will provide better consistency in lower keys. Archon will do better when the mobs live long enough for your hero spec to matter. If packs are dying in less than 30-40s archon is poo.
Void weaver is the way, archon for like key levels you won’t pug as spriest.
I’m currently running a triple idol build for 10+ then for lower keys a custom mind bender build. As many have stated before our AOE is not in the best spot rn. Shadow Crash is holding us back alot where other classes… Frost DKs and Ret pallies and just turn and burn with limited target cap.
The amount of set up work for our AOE requires alot of pre-planning. If you waste a shadow crash your done. If the tank pulls more mobs after shadow crash you’re done. I really wish blizz would remove the cap from shadow crash, make it do more damage, or completely remove it and give us a different way of spreading dots.
The Shadow Crash CD seems to intentionally Handicap the spec from doing the damage we should be.

I love voidweaver. I’m not running high keys but low keys I live at the top of the charts (usually top sometimes 2nd) no matter what class is there. AOE is where it shines. Change Hero talents and at least give it a whirl for a few runs.
