I enjoy Wow but have only been fairly casual of a player so far, my main game is another one (unsure if forum rules allow me to say the name specifically). This other game I play has the option to use a program called Reshade and you can apply Shaders to significantly enhance the sharpness, color and a plethora of other visual things. I did some googling and found NOTHING about whether this is something available for WOW as well. If anyone has any insight I’d appreciate it.
I have a brand new computer system and my WOW settings are maxed and I am just looking to make the games colors even better and ESPECIALLY the sharpness of edges.
You are probably seeing the best depending on your gear, Wow is not life-like but it does make use of shaders.
Most people do not run high end that raid or pvp, they sacrifice look for performance.
Yes I won’t ever really be running end game wow so performance isnt a concern for me, I want the best possible look. Even with settings maxed out on this brand new VERY good system, the sharpness of edges in the game leaves much to be desired.
Naw not referring to gear. Referring to the game world in general.
Also many older games are largely enhanced by Shaders applied to them, it doesn’t matter the age of the game. In fact older games would likely benefit MORE from having shaders applied to them.
ReShade works just fine on WoW. Can’t remember if Reshade is working with Directx 12 yet but if not you can set WoW to use 11.
TheLazy Net used to have a large database of presets. I can’t tell if the site is still up. I use one called Crystal Life with a few tweaks that I really like.
A dye system would work better. To implement shaders a whole new system would have to be created. For dyes you just tie it to the barber or mogger and make it a point and click thing. For simplicity’s sake I think they’d do basic colors, or a pallet of basic colors ranging from faded to chromatic. They’d have to put some serious work in if they wanted to allow full customization on gear. Some sets/pieces have a bunch of parts that could be recolored.
The latest geforce software can do this extremely easily if you have an nvidia card. Just make sure all your drivers are up to date and the overlay options checked. while ingame just press alt+f3 .
You can adjust sharpness, shadow, contrast, color saturation, fake hdr, and many other effects. It’s not near as fully functional as Reshade, but it works no matter what direct x you’re using.
I mostly use it for the sharpening, I find that on some of Blizz’s games… they put this blur overlay on things. Happened big time in diablo 3 and in wow.
Just an update to this. I got Reshade working and WOW looks INCREDIBLY better now! I only had to enable 4 of the Shader effects to get this too. If someone is looking to enhance their game graphics with Shaders, I HIGHLY recommend downloading and setting up Reshade. I am VERY impressed!!
