I just came back to WOW, in order to play Classic, and have been fishing on Darkmoon Island. I keep getting this head or the Crimsonscale Head. What gives with it? I mean, is it part of a quest? Does it help you to find gold. Other than ugly and not worth anything, why is it there?

What does that mean?
It means that, like most things on Darkmoon Island, it’s there for fun. Stick it on your head, have a silly fish hat. That’s it.

So, we get a ton of these things, that only lasts for a day, and that’s it. Great! I am so happy to catch them! Not!

A lot of things have been added simply for whimsy. No other purpose but to make someone smile for a second here and there.

It has the same duration as the Whee! buff from the roller coaster and merry-go-round, so I put one on just before hopping on the ride. When the fish head disappears, I know it’s time to go back and refresh the Whee! buff.
BTW, it coexists with the Chef’s Hat toy’s cooking speed buff. I tested that today. You can safely don a fish head without clearing the cooking buff.
