Nosharding policy after launch period. This includes AQ event, herb respawns, city raids, etc.
Server architecture. What they say, that a few players in the same place and server crashes - well, if you believe that, try MoonGuard or ArgentDawn Goldshire. But still, if entire EasternKingdoms of Kalimdor gets put into one phase/shard, during city raid or AQ event, it is even more likely to crash than in Vanilla… and also to bring some diablo servers down with him.
Also, if each zone will have its own shard, which means, no PVP in Blackrock Mountain will be visible from Searing Gorge, and vice versa, effectively giving a hide ability for everyone.
Loading screens - whether you remember it or not, before WotLK, even teleporting within the same map (EasternKingdoms, Kalimdor, Outland), would give no loading screen - just a few seconds of freeze. On modern clients, it would work exactly the same, as flight master’s whistle - no freeze at all, but some faraway textures will take a second or two to load. But still, it’s worthy to disable the loadscreens, for nostalgia’s sake.
The first and second are inherent in what they’ve already said. The third seems like a petty demand. Whether the screen freezes for 5 seconds, or you see a load screen for 5 seconds, doesn’t really affect the game.
Phasing is tied to questing. The devs (or was it a blue) already pointed out that quests in vanilla are not built with phasing. Thus there will be no phasing.
You arn’t understanding what is being asked. So in retail and on private servers if you stand on the bridge in STV looking into Duskwood you won’t see players until they have phased into STV. This is done to reduce lag. Back during Vanilla, TBC, and WOTLK you could see people in other zones that where in view distance. This goes for mobs as well. This is what is being asked.
I’m not sure if it’s that way in OUTLAND (phase-free content), but in Kul Tiras, players definitely disappear from me when running to another zone… and may appear again if I follow them, as long as they don’t shard out.
Also, I’ve experienced DC’s upon changing zone, so it means they certainly tried to move me to some other server.
The absence of cross realm should alter that a lot. Sharding will, however, have people disappearing and appearing.
I don’t see that as different from visibility distance. Get out of range, poof vanish, then back in range, poof there again. With vanilla’s shorter view distance it will be noticed.
I mean vanilla will have a lot more of PVP spot-action. And one place of special note - Blackrock Mountain - has action all over, including the entrance - one step, zone-out, and you’re out of the action. Just think of what you see when you are a ghost and get close to your corpse - now think of the same happening when you’re happily riding your mount…
