I was doing Vol’dun campaign recently, it boogles my mind that Sethrak is not playable race but lame dragons and 5th copy of dwarves are.
To be fair, Sethrak wasn’t the reputation from vol’dun and the vulpera were closer to being playable.
Most likely, pathetic reskin for alliance and same for horde, then they did vulperas.
Honestly, I was expecting Vulpera, Sethrak, and Turtles to all become allied races. Perhaps they had intended to but cut things short and didn’t get around to it? They all felt like they was planned to be allied races with some of the quest chains.
I doubt it. Turtles were awful models for player gearing/mounting/etc. Sethrak had potential but no, it was never planned. They also ran into issues with mogging/mounting, etc.
Would have been a fair counterpart to Mechagnomes…
I believe there will come a day when they are playable but I think it boiled down to the Horde needed another cute race. Let’s face the Horde is known for being a little burly, that’s why Blood Elves are the most popular race by a metric margin, which I think isn’t fair, because Tauren are clearly adorable and should be played more.
But I think the idea is those fish Goblin wouldn’t have gotten butts in alts like vulpera would have, because, and I know this is going to be a hot take for a lot of people who hate them, they have a real appeal to people who find small furry things cute.
Then what was the excuse for giving the Alliance (a faction that could really use more players) a customization option for the least played race of the entire game compared to a mainstream cute race? ^^"
Alliance has plenty of “good” looking races, it needs more weird and angry looking ones. It has the reverse problem. That’s why Mechagnomes were made. Also it was an excuse to do the tech that allowed them to make races that don’t use the conventional arms and legs so they could keep making those kind of races down the line for future allied races by their own admission since it was a road block for transmog.
looks at male night elves, dwarves, male Draenei, gnomes, Kul Tiran, dark iron dwarves, male Lightforged, mecha gnomes
…
kay.
There’s no accounting for taste but it is what it is. The Horde is disproportionally the one race considered “Good looking”
And Earthen Dwarf was also a safe option to make a neutral race for both factions.
Personally I wanted Tauren but I also think everyone on Horde should be playing them
I would rather have Saurok then Sethrak, personally. If we need some kind of horrendous snake-person, it should be the Naga.
They’re eels though, right? Snakes don’t make sense. Even marine snake species need to breath air, and some even have to return to land to lay eggs.
And whats with the half crab ones, or the huge gorilla looking ones with legs. When did Naga get so strange?
Aren’t Saurok completely insane? I thought sethrak were suppose to be the nice variant to them, since Saurok are like the pants on head nuts ones.
As for Naga…that ain’t happening till Azshara is dead. The Night elves aren’t going to let anyone in that still worships that lady. As for the crab and gorilla ones, they’re not natural. it’s all magic and old god stuff so I guess it’s Azshara’s magic plus whatever deep sea N’zoth juju they put in.
They have a nice little civilization on Thunder Isle. They raise dinosaurs, worship the dinosaur then kill the dinosaur and put its rotting entrails in a big pit in the center of their town.
Its a beautiful culture. Very rich with…entrails. And roaches. They like roaches.
They’re rustic and charming.
They need to drink Gilneas’s magic tree water. That sorted out the worgen.
I believe you can talk to some of them during one of the quests (disguised as a saurok). They’re more or less one logical step away from being able to join a faction.
1: Inviaders fight the mogu.
2: We fight the mogu…
3: ??? Hissing noises and static.
4: We gonna kill everyone!
They’re not crazy, they’re just incredibly primitive but clearly coming along and forming a culture. I actually find them sort of endearing after Isle of Thunder.
On mainland pandaria they’re just bandits and cutthroats. They seem more advanced, but its hard to say how much of that progress is theirs, and how much of it they just picked up from contact with the many races of the mainland.
I’m sold but only if their racial mount is giant cockroaches.
I mean they would definitely ride and eat giant roaches if they had access to them.
