Servers intermittently running like mud with no sign it's even being addressed

This has been an issue since before BFA, but it feels especially bad whenever new content releases.

Your connection is solid, the game shows you a 40ms(or less!) latency, but everything feels like you’re playing on a tape delay.
It doesn’t happen always, but when you’re in a new content area, such as the N’zoth Assaults, you’re much more likely to run into it.

The servers can’t handle PvP battles if the numbers go above 20 or so in a small area, 40+ fighting and you might as well be inserting punch cards into a computer the size of a building.

It seems like they only run the servers at minimum capacity, figuring all the more transient players won’t be around long enough to invest in better capacity even temporarily.

A lot of the on-going issues seem to have cropped up when CRZ/Sharding went live in current content.
I’m speaking specifically of the times when by all indications things should be running smoothly, but you have slowdown and delays for no tangible reason.
This has nothing to do with getting moved to a different region for NA/OCE players, this is something that occurs without grouping/sharding and any time I’ve experienced it, everyone in the same shard as me has been complaining of the issue as well.

How do you feel about the quality of the WoW servers these days?

I feel like the servers ran smoother in the past, despite all the advancements in technology and ever increasing broadband speeds.

I play on seven different servers and have never had any issues in this expansion, not one.

I am on 4 and in the past 2 days I have seen stalls. Some oceanic and some US based.

last night I just froze riding up the pier to get to the alliance ship in boralus. Was about to restart client after a bit but she stopped being dead stick.

Today doing bulk crafting I stopped a good 30 seconds as if stuck in time. that was oceanic.

Just did a warfront I was choppy as hell. this was US but I will assume WF mixes up all the people.

been decent a few weeks so it stood out to me.

At once!

Connection issues can be caused by quite a few things. Its not always the servers having problems it could be one of the network hubs your connection passes through on its way to Blizzard. It could also be your ISP is having problems, from what others are saying sounds like a network hub maybe having some issues.

the only time this has ever happened to me is the big pvp events in nazjatar when Ruin does it’s thing.

Given that, i’d say the problem you’re having is on your end, or your ISP’s end.

I just blame my worse then third world Australian internet. We are ranked 50th in the world for internet speeds. Glad I have 20ms now instead of 200 though.

There’s some weird stuff that happens when I’m playing. You know that instance in the essence room where you have to fight Nzoth’s minions to keep him from taking over Magni’s forge or w/e it’s called?

When I did that I thought my computer was having seizures. Only time that’s happened.
Makes me think that they no longer take into account older computers (mine isn’t that old) and perhaps it’s time to upgrade.

Almost everyday. Disconnects. Ddos attacks I mean the lag is horrible on Area-52 and proudmoore. Realms and population stability has always been a problem with wow devs. Bandaids after bandaids.

I think this is mostly a you problem, I don’t have these issues nor does anyone I know complain about the server stability or lag very often, those complaints are very rare.

I run into the issue at least a few times a week.
Most of my characters are from Area-52 and Stormrage, so that could be a factor in why I see is so frequently.
I wouldn’t think it would be on my end, considering the times I’ve encountered it other players in the zones are having similar issues, unless they all got my wi-fi password!

It seems to be an issue that can be avoided/mitigated by forcing yourself into a different shard.
Back when the Arathi warfront was new, some days going there for wq’s and rares you would get stuck in a shard that ran like molasses. Join a group for a tougher rare and suddenly your connection is back to normal.
It also happened a lot, and now only occasionally, when doing the 8.1 assaults.

My theory is that if a shard is active and crowded for a long period of time, it starts to have issues.
Playing at off hours tends to avoid the issue almost entirely. I would not be surprised that for some off-peak players they may never run into the issue outside of something like a Ruin group in Nazjatar.

Seriously though, with the documented proof of what happens in big WPvP fights, how can anyone come in here and say the servers are fine?
TMvsSS battles used to get huge, and the servers struggled with those but that was over a decade ago.
I refuse to believe server infrastructure and technology hasn’t gotten better than that, because to believe that would mean believing technology hasn’t moved in over 10 years which I know isn’t true.

Probably during a ruin gaming battle for nazjatar.

5 full raids crapping on horde puts the servers into panic mode.
