I did not see a countdown to shutdown. Was there one?
I missed the News announcement about there being maintenence (Does Classic usually happen on Thursday?)
I was mid-combat with a mob on Hardcore.
Am I cooked?

Well on the bright side, since it was a full server shutdown (then restart), it means when you log back in, the mob you were fighting will be at it’s spawn location; not on top of your character… unless you were fighting on top of said spawn location.

There was a countdown. Although when I logged in a hour or so before the shutdown, I don’t recall seeing a maintenance banner on the blizzard client. Most likely you were not on the general chat tab to see it?

And an apt one at that. Gnomes are utterly terrifying.
Imagine having a gnome chasing you around the halls of Icecrown Citadel, yanking on your tail, hissing at you and screaming profane insults about your sexy hooves. Traumatizing to say the least.
