Server Unlocks/Transfers - What are we waiting for?

I was one of the unfortunate few that transferred off Benediction to a now dying server (Eranikus), and playing the game has been become miserable. There’s only a handful of people that PvP and finding arena partners has been extremely difficult. There are barely any PUGs going on so finding raids outside of the 8-10pm timeframe is almost impossible as well, and so many groups are falling apart due to the amount of time it takes to form.

My question is: Why are we waiting to open up the other realms? Why am I being punished for listening to you, Blizzard, and taking one for the team by transferring realms? The only other solution is to introduce Cross-Realm Arena/RDF.

I’m sorry this happened to you.

This couldn’t be more accurate. I play on Eranikus as well and most nights are spent lfing for a few hours seeing literally no one on to pvp and logging out after giving up.

Pugs are non existent during anytime other than absolute peak nighttime hours and even then pugs take 1-2 HOURS to form.

I left benediction on blizzards urge to make the servers a better experience for everyone and am now just twiddling my thumbs waiting for news on when I can get out of here so I can have the wrath experience we all deserve as paying players.

Only the megaservers are locked. Every other server has been unlocked. The reason these are not being unlocked is because they are still megaservers; not large enough to see a queue but still have enough people logging in actively to be considered a megaserver. They are keeping them locked because they are trying to prevent megaservers from forming to the degree they had before.

If they opened up Benediction again, the amount of people that would transfer to Benediction to get off their dying server will just create queues again. It would completely reverse what they spent a month trying to achieve. In fact, would probably be worse this time because many more servers have had declining populations since the transfers. They are trying to undo their mistake of allowing megaservers in the first place, and the only way to stop them from happening again, is to block access to them or offer cross server PVP/LFR/RDF, which they have been very vocal about being dead set against. It’ll likely stay this way until the population on these megaservers has reached a point of being on par with medium pop servers.

I’m not trying to be a Blizzard simp here, but I understand what they’re trying to do and why. I get you’re in a crappy situation, and you’re not the only one. Many are in the same boat.

Makes no sense, if Blizzard wants lower population on mega servers they have two options.

  1. Make the wotlk experience so awful that people quit the game across all servers, eventually reducing server pop on megas.

  2. Make the wotlk experience better on non-megaservers thus reducing demand to play on megas. Could be done by adding cross realm arena and cross realm dungeons.

Bliz is going for option 1, actively making the game experience worse.

If you can’t find a group on a server with 4k / 8k faction pops I don’t think the problem is the server.

Cross-Realm does nothing to encourage players to choose a smaller pop over a megaserver. Queues/locked realms do. Another intervention that’s better than Xrealm, transfers, and queues would be to connect groups of realms together, permanently. Blizzard has even already demonstrated the capacity for such a fix.

If you can’t get a group for content on your backwater server doesn’t that signal you need to be on a mega where the player pool is bigger?

It’s obvious that x-realm arena/RDF would dampen demand for transfers into megas.

It signals that transfers are destructive to realm communities and the short-sighted playerbase took the bait hook, line, and sinker. Demand better management of the realms on Blizzard’s part so that ALL servers are functional instead of this Zero Sum Game so many have fallen into.

we will NEVER get to this balanced state; it’s incredibly naive to think enough people will roll on servers like like Eranikus to make it balance out. The fact is: it’s only a matter of time that these servers die, and blizzard limiting xfer’s to the megaservers will only postpone this temporarily. People like myself will be quitting at a faster rate than people will join the realm.

There are a few populated realms that are currently unlocked. Go transfer there is you really need access to more players.

Megas should stay locked. We still have layers. That bloat needs to die down before they get unlocked.

I am actually happy my servers are locked. We simply don’t need more players.

The only other realm that’s significantly more populated for alliance is Pagle, and it doesn’t seem like there are many pvpers on that realm judging by their arena ladder rankings.

And how in the world does having additional layers negatively affect your gameplay? You can still enjoy the game just as much regardless. I literally played on Benediction the entire time before xferring, and it didn’t affect me whatsoever.

They are, most likely, never unlocking servers, as people would just mass transfer over again.

You won’t like the answer, but a bloated server with several layers does not make for a good community.

OG Grobbers were happier being med/high pop than a mega with all the refugee transfers.

What exactly do you mean by “good community”? I played on Benediction pre and post megaserver status, and I could care less about the change in “community”. As long as I can find raids and people to PvP with, I’m fine.

Are you dumb or crazy? Of course it encourages players to move to any server if they can play with their mates that they left on a mega server. I mean they could have just sharded the mega servers like they do retail and just fix it all but…

At the end of the day all the RDF posts and all the xfer posts want connectivity between realms. They sold WOTLK on the lie that “you can play with your friends” and this concept did not even make it through pre patch.

I mean if realms were able to group with each other in bgs, arenas, raids half the posts on this forum wouldn’t exist because they would finally provide an intelligent solution for half the issues with WOTLK.

This is so true it hurts, big brain on this guy unlike the other small brains in this thread.

so instead of helping the problem during release you sit here all high and mighty? While others left your server allowing you to login without ques for some time now?

LMAO where do these people come from.

I helped the queue cause by not logging onto Grob and instead played on my alt server of Whitemane (no queues).

Putting your eggs all on one realm could be problematic.

People that transferred off of big servers were short-sighted. They did that for themselves, not for those left behind the megas.
