So when will people be able to transfer the rest of their characters off of Dead Realms. Blizzard allowed people with no characters to create new characters on “locked” realms but still will not allow people to transfer their alts to where their main character is. The “stopgap” that was put in place does not fix anything for those who do not play the characters on those realms anymore. I am just not understanding how bringing my Alt to the server with my main affects any server population. I will still only be playing on the server with my main and not touching the old dead server.
+1 I am experiencing the same problems right now as I stated in a thread today, too. It is just awful.
Would you be happy with Blizzard merging two low pop servers together, or medium and low pop servers together?
Depends on the Alliance to Horde ratio. If it get the population to around a 50/50 split or even a 45/55 split I am good with that. I just have no reason to play on a PvP server with no Alliance.
IMO, I wish they never let free transfers happen so early and had let the servers figure themselves out.
That is probably not OPs issue here, since that is something bigger than us. It is rather about being able to transfer alts to main servers
Yup, you’re from Stalagg right? I was there. It was a mess, Stalagg, Skeram and Heartseeker seem to be the start of all the problems we currently see trending across multiple servers now. Unlucky.
When there are dead realms/when you pony up $25 for a transfer.
I am not sure you understood the post my friend. Yes i paid 25 to move my main off of a realm that was already dying out. However they have locked server transfers and now my other character is stuck on the old server with no good reason to play on it anymore. You put pony up $25 like I havent tried that. If you have nothing good to add to a post please just read and move along.
Oh, we’re just going to pretend there aren’t any dead realms, my friend?
Read the name of the person you’re responding to.
You can transfer your characters off dead realms. You just can’t transfer them to overfull realms. The problem isn’t that you’re stuck on a dead realm. It’s that you’re unwilling to consider any other realm to transfer to that is somewhere between dead and bloated.
You’re not reading the OP’s post.
He already transferred a character to the overfull realm. He’s already playing there. He’s not going to be contributing any more to the overpopulation by transferring an alt on the same account.
People who already have characters on a realm should be able to transfer to that realm. Makes no sense to say “the realm is overpopulated so we’re restricting transfers” while simultaneously allowing new players to make characters there.
These people, just like me, are usually heavily connected on that server, me in my case with family and friends and a guild.
Since we can create level 1 characters but not transfer any, please tell me how that makes any sense. You’ll be online on that server anyways since you usually have your main and all your other alts there, too. Please read carefully and comprehend, these 0815 answers
just transfer off to a low pop realm!!!
are unbeareble
The problem here is that Blizzard has a single switch for whether a realm is accepting transfers or not. That switch does not look at existing characters on the realm.
 I have more sympathy for someone who has been on a realm since Day 1 (or at least Phase 1), but those people don’t typically have characters on another realm that they want to move.
Someone who was part of the problem transferring there because it was high population, or because the faction imbalance would be in their favor, gets to live with the consequences of being just one of many who filled it up to the point it got locked.
Personally, if Blizzard was going to add fancy logic to the locked realms, I would hope it limited transfers in to those players who’ve had a character on the realm since before paid character transfers were an option. But I’m petty that way sometimes.
You’d think a small indie dev like Blizzard would be able to come up with a solution for that. They’re able to restrict transfers based on faction, but not on whether a character exists already? Spare me.
Why would I want to pay money to spread my character even more. The point of bringing my alt to my mains server is so that i can use them to benefit one another with professions and the like. I ended up on a “bloated” server because of Phase 1 free transfers. It lead to all of the alliance leaving Stalagg and going to other servers. The best server i could find that fit my time zone and Faction balance wants, was a “bloated” server, which depending on how you look at it are all of the decent PvP servers now. The low population PvP servers are so faction imbalanced its not even a PvP server.
That is what I guess, too. But come on, we aint in 2005 nor is Blizzard some small indi company unable to act (oh the irony). Which brings me to the next problem
Due to the horrific server management on launch day/week (in germany we had 2!! servers with another 8? or so added the days and weeks after) and the free server transfers during P2 my Server died out. Now I recognize this is a problem the US and probably other continents are experiencing this, too.
Fair with me since this is what makes sense for me
Even Blizz said paid transfer makes up only a small amout of what is going on
Its because server transfers are hurting the economy when they bring rare stuff off their dead servers.
Not sure what you mean by rare stuff. Going from one server to the other. There were not many difference in prices. Cloudkeepers are over 2k on both. Edgemasters are over 3k on both. Righteous orbs cost more on my previous server. Yeah there were some items on there that you could have brought over, I just dont think it would have been enough stuff to kill an entire economy. There are other activities that happen on the server that usually will either fix the issue or just bounce back in around a weeks time.
If you want to better understand that end of things, you’d have to find some healthy medium pop servers and pay attention to how free transfers and queue times during the next content drop (or pandemic lockdown, or whatever) affect the AH over a few weeks time.
